Location - UK/Ireland/Scandanavia have the largest densities of boarders - so possibly somewhere there. 2. Accomodation - i guess a hostel/hotel/large apartement would be best. Staying with boarders doesn't quite work once you have more than 5 or 6 people. 3. Type - 3 or 4 days. Would be good to have at least 1 day when we have a definite trip or event, then 1 evening around which we centre the weekend. Pubbing and socialising can be done for the rest of the time. 4. Organisation - Someone or a couple of people will need to take responsiblity for getting things sorted. I can't really be arsed. Volunteers? Thoughts?????????? London worked because it's easy and cheap to get there from lots of different places in Europe. At least, that's what I reckon. Having said that, Amsterdam ought to have been the same... maybe it was just too soon after London though? Accommodation - price is key there. Don't think any of us are looking for luxury, just a bed to crash in. Agreed that staying with others doesn't work beyond a certain limit. The logistics are annoying as well: getting people together is easier if you all have a 'base'. Type - definitely need a focal evening, a party or trip. Organisation - if there's a desire to do something in Scotland, I don't mind organising. Having some help would be good, mind. If it's not in Scotland, I'll do what I can to help. Thoughts: London If we want another big gathering (perhaps using the excuse of the 11th anniversary of AGoT coming out, or the 1st anniversary of "I am from the Internet!"), than London is hard to beat. It's easy to get to and the tube is an extremely handy way of getting around. There is certainly no lack of places to stay, places to eat, touristy things to do and pubs to drink in. This time I'll definitely stay over for at least one night, possibly two: heading home and back again was expensive and tedious. The only major bad for most people, particularly the European posse, is that London is quite expensive overall for drinks and food, although ironically cheaper for me (highly scientific comparisons between how drunk I can get in London versus how drunk I can get at home confirms that drinks prices in Colchster are higher in London: criminal). Scotland or Ireland Getting further afield is good, and transport is relatively easy. Also, unless things have changed radically since I last went to Scotland (9 years ago) or Ireland (erm, 19 years ago), it should be cheaper to eat, drink and get merry. Smokers should beware that both Scotland and Ireland enforce new non-smoking rules that London won't be until 31 July 2007, however. Europe There's a slew of places in Europe we could go to, such as Amsterdam again (great city) or Spain (as was first mooted for the May 2006 meet before it was changed). However, we would inevitably have a lower number of people attending. Amsterdam is also quite a confusing city: even keeping just 11 people together for more than a few hours without getting lost or sidetracked was impossible. Obviously we'd be better prepared next time. If people are interested, I could get my mum in Spain to check prices for renting out villas in her town. Split between a dozen or more people, it could work out quite well, although no doubt some would end up on the couch/balcony/passed out on the floor. The town - Alcossebre - is close to Valencia (flights are frequent from and to most European cities) and a couple of hours by train from Barcelona and Madrid, so excursions should be easy to arrange, plus there are a good few cheap bars and clubs, and the beach and restaurants for during the day. (Although it may mean they are the same as they are today, so people will just have to get used to queuing more if they want to fly. I think it will improve a little though, just because the London airports get so much stick and nearly every other airport doesn't have the near the same level of trouble). Besides on Euro wages (dole here as it were) it's financial suicide. I'm up for Ireland or Spain. What with Ryanair it's not that far. I also used to live there and I miss it still :cry: Also Craic was invented there, and April is already OK for bathing Clubs close at maybe 8 AM, and all is dirt cheap so long as you don't go to the UK traps. I guess any location that has a cheap airline airport nearby should be appropriate. I fail at organizing things that are outside my own country, so I'm afraid I don't dare volunteering, especially since I cannot safely say I'll be there. Well we've got Cardiff and Belfast to go ... lol. What other cool UK and Irish cities could be good fun for us to visit? Need to be touristy, pretty and have a good place to stay. The pubs can be expensive - if you go to the wrong ones, the good ones are pretty reasonable. April and May are looking a little hectic atm (friends getting married plus the beginning of the reenactment season) so I'll probably not be able to make any get together - though if its in Edinburgh I might be able to pop along for a few hours/pints. I'm sure it has a rail station but while I don't mind where I go, I do think it needs to be easy enough to get to by plane. (Or not, I could probably be convinced otherwise). There's city walls and a castle, loads of pubs, great surroundings, it doesn't have an airport but it's easy to get to by train from most cities that do have airports - there is the downside of not having anyone on the ground though... It is very easy to get to from both Dublin and Belfast . Also some of us resident in Ireland with cars could do pick ups - I could get 4 in my car and would be happy to do a Belfast or Dublin run . I am going to uni there in sept and could organise/check stuff out if need be . Galway for craic - ace Galway for music - rockin' , whether you want diddle dee , rock or DJ's . Galway for accommodation - cheap o hostels with full on breccies What do youse all think ? BTW - it's my 30th birthday on may 8th and I am having a massive party in West Meath , near Newgrange , any and all welcome , but it would be a shame if they were at the same time . But I understand the desire to go elsewhere, plus it’s home for a number of boarders and also it’s always packed with stag weekends London – as Chal says, we’d be comparing it with this year’s and there’s the airport issues Glasgow – been done Edinburgh – been done to death Cardiff – I like this idea. Cardiff’s a nice size to get around, it’s got a castle and lots of other stuff and lots of good pubs and clubs and hostels. Airport’s a wee way out of town, but that’s pretty true of everywhere. Only downside is all the boys down from the Valleys looking for a fight but we can just avoid those kind of bars Belfast – I personally wouldn’t want to go to Belfast for a night out. Didn’t think much of the pubs and clubs, the entire city stops serving booze at 1am, the bouncers are arseholes and there’s not that much to do during the day. And everybody keeps asking whether you support Celtic or Rangers, and that gets very annoying after a short while Galway – Galway’s a great place. But difficult to get to. Also, I have sad memories of the city due to a friend’s attempted suicide there so I probably wouldn’t come York – never been there, but sounds great. I have heard that it’s expensive. There’s also the airport issue, but… Leeds – it’s got an airport, it’s a great night out, it’s close to York, the Dales and loads of other stuff, the locals are great. Liverpool – it’s got everything that Leeds has got plus a decent football team Manchester – could be good and easy to get to, although my experiences of Manchester are that there isn’t really a coherent ‘hub’ of nightlife. Very happy to be proved wrong on this point though Nottingham – central, cheap, loads of hot university chicks good bars and it’s Robin Hood country. But probably the most violent city centre in England at night Birmingham – I can’t think of a reason not to go to B’ham apart from it being Chal’s hometown and she might not be keen for it to be there. But it’s easy to get to, has a big centre, has loads of accommodation, the locals are nice Hull – joking… Brighton – good clubbing and accommodation but possibly expensive to get to plus quite pricey. Also, Zollo would have a male fan club within minutes and we’d have to fight them off with a stick Southampton – isn’t a bad night out at all from memory. York could be manageable if people don't mind a bit of a travel from the airport. Newcastle - possibly. I used to live there and i know alot of folk there so would prefer it not to be there really Galway - would be up for it Cork? possibly - not sure about airports? York is an amazing city and yes the dead centre is expensive, but show me a city where that isnt the case. The airport issues shouldnt prove too taxing as its easy enough to get to by rail and road. Galway is a really lively place and full of culture. It has some great nightspots and I could certainly do some scouting through my cousins over there, to aid Mel T. Would suggest Mayo (Westport) but my Mum and Barry\\\'s parents may never forgive me for the shame I bring on the family. Another place I really liked is Liverpool. The night scene there is brilliant and everyone just seemed so nice. York is looking good to me though!! Edit to add: Birmingham?
