What? Are you saying Gendry run all the way from Bridge of Skulls in the west, pass by Castle Black and other castles, to collapse before Eastwatch?

No, they were on the east coast, somewhere between Hardhome and Eastwatch. We know there are mountains at Hardhome. And if you watch Bran's ravens' vision from the last episode, they flew over Eastwatch and then over some mountains - why would the ravens fly over Eastwatch if they were going west from Winterfell? Btw in that vision Night King was standing on the "last stand rock".

I wasn't actually saying or claiming they were near the Bridge of Skulls. More suggesting that according to the mountain range bare from any trees strictly speaking you ought to infer they're at the frost fangs. Obviously they are not. Hardhome has cliffs and in world-lore it's a volcanic area. But it's not an actual mountain range.

I assume we are supposed to assume they are in a mountain range with passes north of the Haunted Forest, and thus yes relatively close to Hardhome and Eastwatch.  But remember that the army of the dead didn't come from Hardhome, but 3ER's cave, with wights chasing them into the Haunted Forest, north of CB. My major point is that M7 had at least journeyed beyodn the haunted forest on foot by the time we catch up with them in the episode. Both Gendry and Jon Snow have passed through it. You can see it from the wall of Eastwatch.

And yes, I know the NK was standing on the same production location in the vision than the last stand scenes. But it isn't supposed to be the same location in-world. Watch the production video HBO made on creating the quarry into the set makes you understand they used the same set but they very much wanted to make it look differently for the viewers. For one, the NK army is "on the move" in the vision scene. We get a bird view of a long ass army on the move, and the NK in the middle of it. It's now some bowl shaped surround, and that big ass army isn't marching on ice. What did you think they would do? Build a different set location just for the vision? No, of course not. Same set, but filled up with marching wights and no high CGI cliff walls on the side.

So, a raven flying 125 mph (200 km/h)? That's a raven at the speed of hurricane 5 winds. :lmao:

Instead of tourneys Westerosi should be holding Formula Raven competitions between House Ferrari and House McClaren.

Well the Ravens talk so anything is possible!

But the main point is we're never told how long they were on that rock for or how long it took to get there.  They may have been on there for four or five days for all we know.  But irrespective it was poor story telling.

Can't ravens talk IRL?

Wow, very interesting results on the pole for this episode. It's one of the more heavily weighted episodes in the negative column in a while. One of the things that made it less exciting is how by the numbers and "trope-ish" this episode was. One of the great things about GoT is how it subverts audience expectations by veering from the usual action story tropes. I feel like a lot of the events were predicted even before the leaks (Gracias, HBO.) occurred: Daeny saves the day, NK gets a zombie dragon, Thoros dies,

Thoros dies

This is the only part that surprised me, I mean someone (other than redshirts) had to die but I would've thought Viserion might be enough. On the other hand they have been shedding non-essentials a lot lately (or shredding, in Thoros' case, heh!).

I'd say it's weighted less towards the positive than normal.  The general scores are still in the positive (if you take 6 to 10 as positive and 1 to 5 as negative) but only just.  But it's only one episode so no damage will be done to the show.

2/10... I usually watch once when its aired so I have something to talk to my FB group members. Then again with my wife whe she's free. This episode, I coupdn't bring myself to rewatch. Dialog was boring as hell and the Arya/Sansa crap irritated me so much I just couldn't.

This had never been the case with the previous seasons...

Thats how I feel and matches something that I think is happening. The audience is changing as a reflection of the changing of the show. The real base that cared about GoT because all the reasons that it made this series special and different are getting more and more disappointed and less interested. On the other hand the show captured the attention of another cohort that are excited about anything that explodes, action scenes, CGI and stuff. I think the scores that we see here (numbers from 1-3 basically similar to 8-10) reflects that change.

That last bit was nearly unBEARable.

But yeah, I thought Thoros for sure was gonna go and possibly Jorah or Tormund. Thoros gone makes Baeric's role as a possible AA more tenuous. And Tormund damn near went. But I guess Jorah needs to stay around for plot reasons as tension between Jon and Daeny's budding romance.

4 or 5 days? Ummm, no.

A. They would have frozen to death in that time

B. The lake was freezing that first night. It was already beyond believability that it wasn't frozen solid to start, in the forever winter of the true north with the Night King nearby no less. It's inconceivable that it wouldn't freeze that first night, at which point, the battle is on.

such a rushed and poorly executed plotline that doesnt even make sense beside providing a reason to give the Nights King a Dragon.

so many carefully developed characters thrown away in the process.

the whole expedition didnt make any sense at all (capturing a wight to convince Cersei? what on earth) if they somehow would have come up with he plan to kill the Nights King e.c.t it would have been a suicidal mission as well, but at least they would have had a target to aim for. this way

Arya/Sansa was WAY overdone as well and i didnt buy it.

i thought that after they couldnt refuse to script the Lannister/Dany battle with Bronn Super Hero like your 0815 hollywodd movie, that would be the new negative epidome of retardness after Porne plotline, but seems like the showrunners were able to fck it up better

I have recently decided to give up getting worked up over some of the silliness in the series (ie: time travel etc), and just enjoy it for the spectacle that it is. I may still point out some goofy stuff, I'm just not going to allow it to spoil the good parts for me. Although this episode certainly had it's share of ridiculousness, it also had some fantastic stuff.

The banter between the Magnificent 7 was excellent, especially Sandor, he never disappoints. The dragons were amazing as usual and Viserion's death was absolutely breathtaking. There was no Cersei which was much appreciated since I hate that douche. Emilia Clarke broke thru her habit of being rather wooden and for the first time, when Jon was waking on the ship, you could actually see some admiration, love and maybe a bit of awe she felt for Jon. Speaking of Dany, her whole look in the battle scene was pure brilliance. With the white skin and hair, the super cool fur outfit contrasted against the dark greys and browns of the men made her look like some sort of ice queen out of a fairy tale, very striking. But my favorite part was definitely when Tormund was battling for his life on the rock. he fought for so long, all the while inching closer to the water, i had expected a bigger death than Thoros and thought "oh crap, this is it" I was actually outwardly upset when I thought he was going to die only to have the Hound swoop in and save him. That little bit was moving.

All in all, there was a ton of great stuff, i ignored the things that made no sense (i'm looking at you Usain "Gendry" Bolt) so I gave it a 9

Wow. I had to watch this while I was at my boyfriend's place the other day. The only thing that I liked was that it showed how obvious it is that Daenerys and Jon will be together in the books. The rest of the episode was just too hilarious to believe. I mean not believe like it is real life because it does have dragons, but I can't believe people get so hyped up about a show like this because it is silly.

I had to give it a 2. The dragons were amazing and so was Daenerys in that cool white coat.

Even if the wights are brainless monsters, the white walkers are definitely smart enough to forge chains and could remote control a pack of wights into an abandoned smithy and make them.

lol NK should remote control em into making trebuchets and the like to toss walkers into the living armies and over the Winterfell walls

Oh, he totally tried it. The wights tend to, uh, fall apart when accelerated to high speeds. I bet that chattering skull trying to wriggle its way over to someone's ankles was terrifying, if not particularly dangerous.

If they held a flame against the ice, it would melt.  Fire is very hot, regardless of how thick ice is.  If fire is touching the ice, then the ice melts bloody quickly.  When I am talking about isn't a castle moat that is 50 ft wide.  6 ft wide would have given them a buffer and would certainly have been better than nothing.

Zombies can clear a 6 foot moat. Fire is hot in an upward direction. Melting ice would work if the ice were above the flame - not so well if they're trying to lay a torch as close to the frozen surface as possible. They might be able to produce a six-inch moat that way.
