Bran goes far back in time to stop the Night King and ensures "There must always be a Stark in Winterfell" is engrained into Stark minds to ensure his lineage leads to his birth. Yaeh, coming from a world where the current monarchs include a Carl XVI and a half dozen others who are VI or greater, with other historical examples like Ramesses XI, and all of them from monarchies that only lasted a few centuries and changed dynasties multiple times, it's hard to work up much bafflement over an 8000-year-old dynasty having a few dozen Brandons. There was a legendary figure named the Nights King in the books (supossely the 13th LC), but he is defeated long time ago and according to GRRM unlikely to have survived.
