[Spoilers] Rant and Rave Without Repercussion

So Rhaegar Targaryen annulled his marriage to Elia Martell, thereby rendering his children Rhaenys and Aegon bastards in the laws of Westeros. He then proceeds to run off and marry Lyanna Stark, a teenage girl, without informing anyone - most notably said teenage girl's family - leading to everyone to believe Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna and sired a son - who happened to be named Aegon despite Rhaegar already having a son with that name, thus further disowning his children - leading to the brutal executions of Lyanna's father and older brother. Since this was the one question GRRM asked to D&D when selling the rights to make this shown, I'm going to assume that this bit is accurate to the books no matter how much the show has deviated at this point.

Rhaegar definitely deserved to have his chest caved in by Robert Baratheon, and so did Lyanna (well, the book's version is ambiguous since she was only 15-16, but the show version is twenty-something and should have fucking known better). How could anyone think this is romantic?

GRRM said he asked them many questions to see if they read the books and that they got questions correct.  He never said what the questions were or which ones they got correct. D&D mentioned that he asked about Jon's mother but he didn't say if they got it correct just that he smiled.  Until I read it one of the books or GRRM actually comes out and confirms i'm holding out hope that this is all D&D's doing.  Either Way Rhaegar earned that hammer to the chest.

It's the only way he'd be short enough for Arya to slash his throat - otherwise, she can't reach.

Ha ha ha that's perfect!

I laughed through the whole execution scene. And the scene after was so stupid, Sandra calling sex trafficking "love" and Arya saying she could never be like her so she had to be something else and Sandra saying Ned's line after calling him stupid before. Also it didn't matter that LF flat out told Sandra he is the one who had her wear the poison necklace that killed Joffrey, whatever.

Totally Team Jaime again, I'm so glad he's going north to be a part of the dream team. But what's Bronn gonna say? He's gonna be so pissed. I would've thought he'd have taken him with him - I don't see him being particularly safe in KL without Jaime protecting him from Cersei.

If they're going to have the forced Drama of Sansa and Arya on screen all season, why have the coming together of the 3 Starks off Screen?

The "suspense" of not showing the viewer wasn't worth the tradeoff off of not showing them reconcile.  That tension and resolution would have been much better on screen and they still could have had the "Trial".  I wonder if the know they just can't pull off character interaction and development anymore. This whole sesaon has been sped up for no reason.  There's easily been 3 hours of potential worthwhile material they could have put in and still obtained their plot goals.

That's all I can think of about the Arya/Sansa "tension". They only showed the conflict between the two brew when they were alone together. Those scenes should have occurred in public settings. Anytime they were alone the show should have had them planning littlefingers downfall. Everyone on this thread called this from the beginning. Force Arya and Sansa to have some nonsensical conflict all season so they can have their (non)shocking death for the last episode. Everything that happened in that littlefinger death scene should have happened when Jon was still there, when bean got back or when Aryan got back. But save it for the end cause people will say it was surprising when it is obvious why they waited until the last episode.

Haven't posted here in a while. I confess I've enjoyed this season a lot more than the last couple for the simple reason that the shoddy writing and plot holes are easier to tolerate when there's not a published book to compare to, and because I'm not convinced at this point that Martin has any intention of finishing Winds, let alone Dream, any time soon, and at least this will be a conclusion of some sort to the story, which is better than nothing. However, the precipitous dropoff in quality since they ran out of book material is truly jarring, and I'll never be able to truly enjoy it without thinking about what might have been.

That wight quest really ended up being one giant, stupid waste of time, didn't it? After seeing a dead man, Cersei just betrays them anyway -- well who the fuck could have predicted that? Was anything accomplished here other than getting 90% of the cast together for a showy and very pointless parley, and sacrificing a dragon to give the NK what he needed to bring the Wall down?

Also, WTF has been the point of Littlefinger since the end of Season 4? Did I miss some reason Sansa decided to axe him for his crimes now instead of doing it long ago? Glad he's gone...the perfect example of a character D&D didn't know what to do with without George's writing. Ditto Varys for that matter (among others)...remember how intriguing those two and their plots once were? Is he really just Dany's loyal man now?

For a guy who can see all of time and space, past, present, and future, or whateverthefuck, Bran is really kind of useless, isn't he. When he does anything truly useful with his supposedly awesome power and omniscience, wake me up. (And while I feel like pointing out the teleporting and jetpacking around is almost passe at this point, but Sam really made it from Oldtown to Winterfell, crossing a war-torn continent in what's apparently supposed to be winter, in record time.)

Will probably add more later when I have more time.

I guess in the end, it's all just cocks after all (perfect metaphor for where this show has been headed for at least 3 seasons now).

Umm...did they seriously show a clip of a raven struggling to fly, and have LF state that "its not easy for ravens to fly in these storms" an episode after having a raven traverse the entire continent in a matter of what? hours?

So much for for the numerous honey potting theories I've read about magical ravens that can fly at Mach 4 speeds.

I missed that! That's priceless! The absurdity compounds with every episode.

According to the latest interview with Michelle Clapton, everyone dressing the same is a deliberate choice to highlight the fact they are all on the same side, being still alive.

I know, I :rolleyes::bang: too.

Showing they are still alive by wearing funeral garb.

Forgot to mention that between Jon's real name turning out to be Aegon and the Golden Company getting shoehorned back into things (be afraid, Jon Connington fans!), I think it's safe to say the fAegon plot is a lot more significant than many assumed when he wasn't included, and portions of his role are being handed off to other characters (Jon, Cersei) at the eleventh hour.

Except that there's plenty of book evidence that Jon's real name is Aegon.

Maybe Ned just misheard Lyanna's dying words and thought she said to name him Aejon.Or maybe it is Aegon with a soft g, like in the entirely wrong pronunciation of gif.

Is there anything more awful at this point in the show than what they have done with the Lannister Twins? Like, Carol is basically in a gundam sized suit of plot armor, and good ol' Larry might as well have been taken out behind the woodshed and shot he is such a shadow of his former self. I think someone bitches about it every week, but holy shit the character arcs of these characters in the show vs where they seem to be headed in the books is insanely wrong.

I sincerely hope GRRM has a better plan for how the wall comes down in the books than the Fellowship of Plot Devices (and Jon) inadvertently gifts the Night King a dragon. Even if he describes something as ridiculous as a bunch of wights forming human ladders and climbing each other or something equally as ludicrous. I would buy the Other having catapults and launching wights over the Wall like that before I buy they just happened to have three lengths of giant chain that are probably well over 300 feet long.

Also, I don't see why anyone is offended that Jon and Dany are getting together, it's not like cardboard people can mate with flesh and blood people.

Wow. What a waste of screen time the entire first 40 minutes was. Can't even process how dumb. Could have been wrapped up in less than 5 minutes. "No one would have dared murder Tonmen while father was alive." Huh? Do these guys even watch the shit show they create?

The Mercy killing of Little Finger was a shame. But, they killed his character completely by depriving him of his brain in Season 4. So, basically, they just killed undead unLittleFinger.

So, just for show, Daenerys takes her entier army and dragons to King's Landing for the negotiation. Um, why not just take King's landing and the thone at that point? They probably could have taken it in half a day, which seems like less time than they wasted talking.

I would be impossible for this show to get ANY dumber.

Yes, there is that magical horn that the show never introduced. So we'll see.

I think so too.  Various plots handed out to Cersei or Jon or Dany could well be D&D playing Plotzee with Stannis's & (f)Aegon's plots.

This grosses me out more than all of the incest in the entire history of Valyria.

Acting

Yes, if only acting made up for shit writing. A romance that has been built up all season should have a more intense love scene. The only people that found it satisfying are people who don't care for their relationship.

If we can't distinguish them maybe the NK won't be able to either! It also helps them blend in with the landscape. Personally, I'm hoping for a Sam and Frodo at the Black Gate scene.

Either way, it's a winning strategy.
