[Spoilers] Rant and Rave Without Repercussion

Recommended Posts

I felt this episode was a lot better than the last 2 ones. Although I do have things to complain about, it was definitely not as horrendous as the one from last week.

Still, the main things that annoyed me:

1) The meeting between all the characters still makes no sense whatsoever. They're supposedly all at the meeting because they just want to get a truce, and don't expect the Lannisters to march with them... and fully expect to continue the fight after the war in the North... which still makes no sense, as it's still easier to end the war in the South with a single decisive battle now, that they themselves admit they'll still need to fight in the future.

But fine - but then what do they expect out of Cersei? WhatĀ are they there for? They want her to promise not to regroup while in the North, so that they can have a fair fight when they return back to the South? Is that realistic? Are they not going to prepare themselves for a fight, after they defeat the White Walkers? Do they really expect Cersei not to prepare to defend herself after their campaign in the North, when they freely admit to her that the war will continue in the future?

And they're then mad at Jon, for getting Cersei to walk out in anger... but what for? Didn't they already get everything they wanted out of Cersei? If they're apparently not there to try and get the Lannisters to march north, and they're still admitting that they'll need to continue to fight afterwards, the only point of the meeting seems to just be to declare to Cersei that 'We're marching North, bye, we'll come later'... I just don't understand what they expect to get our of it, and what they're so angry anout when Cersei first walks out?

Then Cersei keeps talking on and on about her moving back her 'armies'... what armies? The Lannister army should have suffered significant weaknesses by this point, and Cersei should be a hated leader, who faces off against the combined might of practically all other great houses, plus the Dothraki, Unsullied, and 3 dragons... and for all Dany's side knows, they've also just witnessed Euron abandoning her, so Cersei loses her own advantage, which is naval superiority. Dany could literally take the city probably within hours, and yet we're also asked to believe that the Iron Bank will back Cersei, rather than the obvious winning side?

The complete pointlessness of this meeting and this plot, out of which everything else in this season has derived, remains the season's biggest challenge.

2) Why does Tyrion claim responsibility for the deaths of Tommen and Myrcella? That seems completely pointless.

3) The Bran exposition scene was completely pointless. It feels like the show is treating us like idiots. The show should have made it absilutely clear by now that Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, and that he was a legitimized son of Rhaegar. The show actually did a good job of 'showing' us this up to this point, why have to spell it out for us in such an obvious way?

4) Finally, I thought the blue fire dragon with the Night King riding it looked too fake, and too computer gamey for me.Ā

Bran is really kind of useless, isn't he. When he does anything truly useful with his supposedly awesome power and omniscience, wake me up.

I agree, and it's really difficult to understand why. Even in the previous episode, when it would have been perfectly reasonable to use him, they didn't.

And there was no commentary about Rhaegar just doing a do over with a new wife and a new Aegon, like it was just a sweet little romance.

The way they glossed over everything makes me think we'll get something more in depth next season.

Littlefinger was lured into that room without telling him what this was about, he wasn't given any time to prepare a defense, he was accused and no prove was presented. The witness was apparently asked beforehand and told the story that he "can see everything and everywhere and everywhen". Yeah, sure. That is either true (then he is an abomination and not trustworthy) or it's a lie. Littlefinger denies, is not given time to speak for his defense, could not name a champion to fight for him and got his throat slit a moment afterwards, without giving him time to prepare for death, like making peace with the gods or writing a nice letter to Uncle Bob, who will now cry himself into sleep because his little Finger wasn't able to say a proper goodbye.

Sorry, no rant from me today. Justice has been served. I expected Ned Stark to come out of his grave to give his kids a hug. They have listened to him all those years, learning about honesty and justice. He would be such a proud daddy.

-

So. Aegon, huh? It's funny. While Bran or Sam (forgot which one) talked about Jon being the rightful heir, that was the precise moment, when Jon was laying ON TOP of Daeny. I'm certain we don't have to worry. Daeny will surly submit to her man and kneel before him.

On the other hand they implicated that Daeny is Jons Auntie. While they were having sex. But that is alright, the show was always about incest.

Ā

No rant from me. Masculinistic incest ist the best.

-

Now, the max waiting time is two years now, huh? No rant from me. I could wait even longer than that... ;)

Umm...did they seriously show a clip of a raven struggling to fly, and have LF state that "its not easy for ravens to fly in these storms" an episode after having a raven traverse the entire continent in a matter of what? hours?

So much for for the numerous honey potting theories I've read about magical ravens that can fly at Mach 4 speeds.

It's kind of the whole, Arya was actually the waif excuses all over again from last season.

I'm sure all of these dumb theories about the NK setting a trap to get a dragon will come to fruition as well.

When will defenders of this show realize that these plots and scenes are actually as dumb as they seem?

Same issue with the "the wight hunt is not for Cersei, is for the whole realm to see". There was NO ONE but Cersei, Euron and a couple more guys at the parley, not a single representative for any big house. I guess @Lord OkraĀ should apologize for accusing some other posters of jumping the gun.

Hoping there is another TOJ flashback next season since Lyanna wasn't quite dead when we left off. Hoping she tells Ned that she wasn't kidnapped or raped. "Promise me Ned you won't tell Robert I'm just a homewrecking slut who made Rhaegar secretly divorce his wife and marry me to get in my pants. And sorry about the war and the thousands of deaths. Oh and that whole thing the Mad King did with Dad and Brandon was pretty unforntunate. I guess I kinda fucked up" ...... Muffled sounds as Ned finishes the job with a pillow.

I love it.Ā

Ā

This episode was extremely dull and predictable, and showed openly how the whole season has been a huge collection of plot holes and filler scenes with zero meaning.

LF to Sansa: "Fight all battles in your head. That way you will never be surprised". I guess he forgot to battle against the omniscient cripple boy whose father he had betrayed.

Much more to say and little that has not already been said. I am only sad we wonĀ“t get to rant and enjoy GOT memes for one or two years more. What will I do in my spare time?

Add: Did anyone else think that the Theon fight was a bit like choreographedĀ wrestling? The good guy is losing, but all of a sudden the bad guy tries to knee on the nuts, Theon goes all berserker and knocks him with just a blow. Ludicrous.

The season was glorious if measured by the sheer amount of meltdowns by the fandom. My faves must be "omg why jon aegon rhaegar named his sons aegon two times it is so confusing rhaegar is smart in the books" and "omg jon isn't named aemon that makes no sense because everyone knows that headcanon is the next canon"; also delightful: "omg where did NK get his chains do others have manual labor" and "omg arya is such a badass, sansa is such a mastermind" - as if any amount of worldbuildling can patch up the dissonant narrative characterisation. They wish they could be caricatures, these people in S7. Phooey!Ā

Wow. What a waste of screen time the entire first 40 minutes was. Can't even process how dumb. Could have been wrapped up in less than 5 minutes. "No one would have dared murder Tonmen while father was alive." Huh? Do these guys even watch the shit show they create?

The Mercy killing of Little Finger was a shame. But, they killed his character completely by depriving him of his brain in Season 4. So, basically, they just killed undead unLittleFinger.

So, just for show, Daenerys takes her entier army and dragons to King's Landing for the negotiation. Um, why not just take King's landing and the thone at that point? They probably could have taken it in half a day, which seems like less time than they wasted talking.

I would be impossible for this show to get ANY dumber.
Ā

Duh, because Tyrion the master strategist and military genius says not to! Everything else springs from that Tyrion has been PROTECTING Cersei since Daeneys landed in Westeros. Actually, how long since anybody called he Khaleesi, even Jorah has not uttered Khalleesi and he used to scream it out continuously. Cersei and her continued support and luck and plot are non-sensical and totally implausible. It appears the Night King has been waiting for Tyrion to send him a dragon for at least 300 years and Cersei appears to be his ally in this case. I mean, come on d$d, the whole plot revolves around Cersei, perhaps the only thing the Night King really want is to get to Kings Landing to Claim his bride, Cersei!

Just watched the Episode. My first impressions:

  • not only has Littlefinger's arc been developed in a poor way, they also didn't grant him an honorable show-death (comparable to Stannis). Baelish wasn't a Coward to plead for his life like that.
  • Meeting of Samwell and Bran: well, they should have spent days discussing together to exchange knowledge etc. To grab Bran's power, Samwell should have been given time to understand it slowly. And, finally it seems Samwell listened to Gilly when she read him about Rhaegar's annulement and new marriage. In episode 5, I didn't think so. In short: material for a whole episode was stuffed into less than 5 minutes.
  • It seems Sansa and Bran finally talked to each other, shame we did not wittness it.
  • It seems Dany-Team did not prepare well for the negotiation. Why was everyone so upset by Jon's declaration to have bend his knee to Dany? Dany knew already. Why showing surprise then? Tyrion did not know? And why was is that tragic? I do not get it, sorry.
  • When un-dead-Viserion was burning (or freezing ???) the wall, I thought: they (Thormund etc.) will never have a better occasion than now (with Viserion standing still in the air) to kill him with a dragonglass-tipped spear or arrow. Shame, they did not even try.

So what this episode really showed me is that the Dudebros could really just kill off everyone other than Kit Harrington, Dany, Cheryl, Tyrion and perhaps Jaime. Honestly, what is the point at this point in the story of Varys, MissWorm, Jorah, Brienne, DavosĀ and everyone else at the Wight for Cersei meeting? They serve no purpose.

Haha. Great point. Also, I like how she decides to call her banners after meeting with Tyrion. She has been at war for the entire season. Shouldn't she have called the banners well before this point? What have all the loyal houses to the crown and Lannisters been doing this whole time?

Exactly, agreed on all points, it all makes no real sense. This entire season was about showing off Lena Headeys acting powerful with no real power (the Donald?) and apparently being loved by a populace and army that used to hate her and should still, so d$d spent seven episodes manufacturing a way to give Viserion to the Night King to destroy the wall. The only true death this season was GoT's reputation of having main characters suddenly die. The whole season was just contrived filler, and the Tele porting armies and Heroes mean that the show is not even the same genre it started out as. It started as adult fantasy and now resembles teenage video games and cartoons. I admit freely that I watched it all, and found it thoroughly entertaining, but as a fan fiction interpretation of asoiaf not an adaptation of GRRMs work, well not to me, anyway.

After 1.5 hours 2 seasons of the characters talking and talking and talking, I am so happy that the Night King doesn't have any dialogues. The guy just goes about his business. It's really hard for D&D to make a character seem dumber if he doesn't have any dialogues at all.

So the only surviving character in the series till now: Night King. The irony!

I think she meant those banners left in the Stormlands and Riverlands (that have been completely forgotten) and the remaining people in the Reach.
