There is something I'd like to understand of him....the mark in Bran's shoulder, as well as his obsession with the 3eyed, and the fact that he can see a greenseer observing him. These might be clues. Is he a greenseer as well?

(First of all, a reminder that NK is not Bran, they can't coexist in the same time and space and I'm sure that KN is not agreenseer projection, since he seems a physical thing).

But if he has greenseer abilities, that's because the cotf let him have them? Or is is because he was a greenseer in the first place? There are so many questions to be answered, considering his origins.

It will probably not be explained in the show, but in the books there is a good chance that the White Walkers are the result of human greenseers (death or alive). Remember this chat between Leaf and Bran:

Quote

Gone down into the earth," she answered. "Into the stones, into the trees. Before the First Men came all this land that you call Westeros was home to us, yet even in those days we were few. The gods gave us long lives but not great numbers, lest we overrun the world as deer will overrun a wood where there are no wolves to hunt them. That was in the dawn of days, when our sun was rising. Now it sinks, and this is our long dwindling. The giants are almost gone as well, they who were our bane and our brothers. The great lions of the western hills have been slain, the unicorns are all but gone, the mammoths down to a few hundred. The direwolves will outlast us all, but their time will come as well. In the world that men have made, there is no room for them, or us."

She seemed sad when she said it, and that made Bran sad as well. It was only later that he thought, Men would not be sad. Men would be wroth. Men wouldhate and swear a bloody vengeance. The singers sing sad songs, where men would fight and kill.

I think from what we've seen him do it's clear that the NK has at least some greenseer powers - I think it takes one to spot one and to be aware of being spied on by one.  He's repeatedly shown himself to be the only person conscious of Bran's presence while everybody else remains oblivious. I think the mark on Bran is intriguing and I thought it was being set up as a way for the NK to bring down the Wall, but they went with dragonfire instead. I wonder if that's the way books will go as well, or if Bran will play a role in bringing it down. We shall see.

Another interesting question is whether he's always had these powers. Was he created with these abilities or is it something he gained when he broke away from the CotF's control? Is this *how* he broke the bond?

I don't know if this was aimed at me, but I wasn't implying he was Bran - it's just that the two of the magically inclined Starks both called Bran and it's the most common Stark name anyway - I can see the NK being Bran as well if he is a Stark. One of the elder Brandons though.

I read this article on yahoo that said a reddit user brought up a pretty solid question.

We know the Night King can raise the dead without touching them.  The war of the 5 Kings, the aftermath of that war as well has caused how many casualties?  How many of those corpses have been burned?  They burn in the North but now TNK has the fastest mode of transportation in the world.  A dragon.  What's stopping him from just doing a flyover raising the dead in all the lands south of The North?

He is a good king. He does not abandon his people. He shares their fate and walks with them. He is the protector of the dead. That is what stops him from leaving.

We all know our poor NK for his many strenghts has one huge flaw. He isn't very good in finding his way. It took a long time for he found his way to the Wall. And luckily his officers and his wights are aiding him to find it.

But what would happen if he doesn't have their help anymore. If he had to find the way on his one while flying his dragon, he might suddenly find himself in the Lands of Always Winter instead of south of the Wall.

That is also a good reason.

Whenever they want to, the white walkers shut off the dead army and chill. What's the hurry? They couldn't pass the wall yet anyway. I suspect, I can't prove it, but I suspect they have made several hockey teams of wights and participate in the Dead Hockey League to alleviate boredom..  The Dead Rangers are rumored to be in first place at 17-12-4

Imagine the fun of Westeros throwing literally everything to stop the NK and succeeding, only to find out the NK is just a minor scout sargeant of the WW empire.

Then armies of ice dragons and giant unmammoths ravage the puny humans.

As others have said I dont know if I want him to speak or if it would ruin it. I do want to find out his motives, and his deal with Crastor how it was negotiated.

I wonder what his voice will sound like ? Deep and slow, high pitched lol , hmmmm.....

As the tale draws to a close, more and more people recognise the true saviour of Westeros. Good to see.

Think about, even if he is doing little more than continuing his original purpose (protecting nature and the magical trees from the advance of humanity) his cause is more pure and his intentions more noble than any other character in the tale (including Jon). We don't need to know the details of his motives to know they serve the greater good - we just have to accept that humans don't.

Consider that the NK and the Winter he controls is the reason Westeros has been kept in some form of feudalism for 8000 years. Consider that without him the humans would industrialise and Westeros would be truly fucked, as is our very own Earth. Perhaps that is the bitter sweet ending?

NK is just going south of the wall to parley with the King. He hasn't been south of the wall after he built it and his former home Winterfell. But now he feels he would like to reunite with his family and parley for a change of leadership beyond the wall. His time is coming to an end, and he needs to find a  suitable successor, and would prefer it to be a Stark.

For 8 000 years have he trained White Walkers and for 8 000 years have he kept humanity safe from the horrors beyond the wall.

Hopefully he will talk. I will be surprised if he doesn't. He MUST have a plan, hence why he has let people live or get across to the other side before making them wights, for example. I'm thinking he was created to create defend Westeros from destruction and that is still his goal - destroy those who threaten Westeros, but that doesn't mean everyone. He will kill who he thinks is bad/causing destruction and will leave people behind to try and make a better world. If they fail, he will return. That is just my thought.

I find it very odd that most people seem to be thinking the night king will be defeated without to much difficulty. On paper if this wasnt a story the night king should clearly easily win this war. Lets compare strengths.

Night king

1) atleast 100k wights(much harder to kill than regular man)

2) Gaints wights, animals wights(much harder to kill than normal gaints or animals)

3) Can raise any fallan human or animal, including babies, civilians, birds ect

4) Severe artic winter follows, and turm evreywherw North of where he is into antartica.

5) Others(stronger and faster than normal men) can only be killed by special rare weapons

6) Night king can easily kill dragons. And has dragons

Westroes

1) Jon=Westroes equivalence to Nights king. Only he has no power and is a terrible commander who loses evrey battle he ever fights.

2) Atleast 100k men who will be fighting in severe winter condition ever though almost all men are use to desert climate and do not have proper winter clothing.

3) Cersi attacking their rear

4) 2 Dragons

Yes, but you are not considering Westeros main advantages:

1. Most Westerosi heroes don plot armor. This a superior version of Valyrian armor, which allow the wearer to deflect giant spears, float, be invisible to enemies or summon magical help, among many other feats.

2. Westeros is led by the awesome cliche couple Kit&Emilia. With millions of devoted fans ready to switch the TV off if they died, they are really hard to kill.

So our Beloved Leader is doomed in the show. Thankfully, the show is just a nightmare He had before the real story is told by the books.

3. The Night King's army is the only one that has not mastered fast travel. Westerosi armies are trained in the art of teleportation.

But, OTOH, only the Night King´s Army and some wildlings have not forgotten the art of scouting.

I think they do travel fast, they just go in circles everytime they come to the wall. Like NASCAR
