Talleyrand
CC is definitely the most interesting character so far, wonder how dark it's going to get with him. Karate Kid kept throwing me off though

Karate Kid kept throwing me off though Bwahahaha.... totally... I was like, "Is that really Ralph fucking Machio?"... he finally looks his age, which is to say that I think that this role might get him back in the game... C.C. is a great character... I never know what he's going to do/say... but as much as i'm not a big fan of Maggie Gyllenhall... she is great in this role... watching these arcs come together is going to be a fun watch
Astromech
I was wondering wth I had seen the actor playing Big Mike, Mustafa Shakir, in before. I forgot he played Moses in Cinemax's Quarry. I liked the episode and seeing character arcs intersect at Vincent's new bar. Really like Candy. She's a complex, well-developed character. Tough, street-wise, entrepreneurial, motherly to the other girls on the streets, but also fragile. Her scenes alone in her apartment listening to her messages are some of her best. I also love Larry and Darlene's interactions. Larry seems to actually care for her beneath the rough exterior. Contrasting that with CC and his girls. CC is a smooth-talking manipulator, but also has violent tendencies when things don't go his way. I haven't seen that with Larry yet. Interesting to see the multiple dynamics among the pimps and their girls and even different treatment of different girls within the pimps' stables. Bravo showrunners. I also appreciate seeing the corrupt side of the NYPD and government through Chris Alston. I'm waiting to see how long he will go along with it. Cas Stark
I must confess I want someone to kill Frank, ASAP. He is an asshole and Franco playing twins is distracting enough.
Astromech
At least Seth Rogen isn't playing Frank.

Ran
It's because the real-life Vince that inspired the series also had a twin brother who also was involved in the stuff he recounted. Simon and Pelacanos initially thought it was too much to be believable and were not going to include him, but then decided that, hell with it, it's what really happened so might as well use it and see how it works. Jaxom 1974
That I did not know. Okay then.
Cas Stark
Yeah, me neither I didnt realize any of the characters were based on real people.
Zorral
That's how Simon and his crew roll -- totally embedded, as much as possible, in what really happens and who the people are. Though still, doing fiction. Which a lot of people forgot about The Wire -- that it was FICTION!
RumHam
Enjoying it so far. Is this a regular series or a one time thing like Show Me a Hero? On 9/19/2017 at 3:15 PM, The Bard of Banefort said: I'm curious if they're going to kill Emily Meade (Lori) off in the first season, since that's apparently what happens to her in every HBO show she's in. Also, does anyone else think she looks a lot like Hannah Murray (Gilly)? She survived The Leftovers. They just wrote her off after season one. Zorral
HBO renewed the Deuce for a second season after the first episode aired.

Not all whom I was associating her with. Thanks for the clarification, Martini. Last episode. Oh man, poor Candy. That diner scene was brutal for her. kairparavel
I didn't realize that was Slim Charles the first time I saw him at the diner. http://ew.com/tv/the-deuce-hbo-cast This show so far is well-written and well-acted. Maggie G is superb. Twice the James Franco is off-putting but I'm good with Vincent. Frankie, on the other hand.. But as a woman, fiction or no, this show is rough to watch in spots. Astromech
I didn't recognize Slim Charles either and initially couldn't place D'Angelo. It was nagging me the entire first episode before I remembered.
