Really interesting article, and sounds like an idea that was long overdue given how everyone has taken to it. Good for them. At least that was the justification for having two Francos in the run up to season one. In all the interviews I've read and after the episode things it seems like Simon is unwilling to reveal the real inspiration for either Vinny or the High Hat. Emily Meade has done some wonderful acting this season. Lori's dinner with CC and meeting with Kiki were great scenes. I hope the series ends well for her. When he was at the apt and the dog was barking I instantly thought he was going to kill it. Once he got stabbed I started to think he kind of did it on purpose, like he wanted to go out like that because he knew his life as he knew it was ending and he wanted to go out like a pimp. Astromech Posted November 1, 2018 Share Posted November 1, 2018 Was anyone else shocked to see Spoiler Armand Assante as Vinnie and Frankie's dad? Well-deserved stabbing and bludgeoning. I thought Bobby was going to have a heart attack though. I loved to hate CC. What a great character and portrayal by Greg Carr. I really thought the season would end with a similar situation. Dorothy seems a bit too naïve at times for someone who was in the life and managed to escape. Candi sure enjoys pushing her mom's buttons when she's with her. Feels like there’s no wasted storylines in this show. the writing was on the wall for Dorothy, but it still kinda shocked me they killed her off. Cheese’s death was pretty funny otoh. I liked that the mob was more involved this season. Not sure, but I think that was the first time we heard which families Rudy and the other guy (who’s name escapes me) are part of? It’s a shame this show seems to be so underrated. Then again hardly anyone watched The Wire when it was airing so it’s its nothing new for a David Simon series. True, but can’t the same be said for The Handmaid’s Tale? And that show is hugely popular. For the record I don’t watch that one, but it certainly sounds dark. As a woman I've had to curb my viewing of shows with oppression and/or violence against women and misogynistic story lines and themes. I think this show is set on a three season arc for the women. S1 the women were basically powerless and simply there to be used and abused. S2 the women are finding their way through the show and clearly becoming more powerful. I assume S3 will be more of the same. Set in the 80's, more women in control of their lives, Times square getting actually cleaned up some, and the Aids epidemic beginning. The obvious aids impact character would be one of the gay men but how rough would it be if it was the 16 year old son that the father is allowing to sleep with the hookers?! Possible we see the pimp/actor in mainstream films, blaxploitation films from that time? I was pretty shocked at Dorothy being the body they found. Was surprised they killed her off scene like that.
