Arthanis
Hi, just please look at following pictures: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/e/e9/Dayne.png https://timedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/screen-shot-2017-03-10-at-1-09-09-pm.png?w=560 http://media.popculture.com/2017/08/game-of-thrones-white-walkers-cave-drawings-patterns-1-20009352.jpg Thoughts: 1. Daynes are keepers of ancient weapon and possibly the ancient knowledge 2. Dawn is OR was OR could be again the Lightbringer (all options possible) 3. If Dawn is the Lightbinger, then heart of Nissa-Nissa is a heart of falling star? 4. Westeros had an extra moon (mentioned in legends), which exploded and bring dragons to world... Is the "falling star" the remain of exploding "dragon moon"? 5. Red sword of Heroes is red - does it mean "covered in blood"? If so, wielder of Dawn must make major sacrifice to change it's colour. 6. Why Night King is so openly reminding humanity of existence of Lightbringer? If it is the only weapon able to end the long night, NK should do everything to keep it's existence in secret... Or his goals are completely different then expected. Lucius Lovejoy
Cool stuff! I think this is just coincidental with the Dayne sigil looking like the cave image / WW bodies, the Daynes and their ancestral sword Dawn haven't been mentioned enough for them to come into play in the show at this point, and I don't believe Lightbringer has been talked about on the show since Stannis died and even then it was only in reference to his (not even glowing) sword's name. Pretty sure Nissa Nissa hasn't been mentioned either. The writers of the show have given us plenty of random stuff before, but typically they've set up important and book related items pretty well. The cave image and the WW corpse art definitely isn't a coincidence, just good production design / consistency. But Dawn and the Daynes probably aren't related to it. Nowy Tends
I think it's way too late to give any importance to the Daynes in the show. The way Dawn was shown in the ToJ (near the bloody bed) was just a wink to book readers.
Arthanis
There is big mystery beyond Daynes in books. They might be as old as Starks, their weapon is old enough to remember Long Night, they have tons of mysterious similarities to Valyrians (maybe Valyrians were descendants of House Dayne?...) - I don't think their story arc is so unimportant, to be limited to "winks to book readers". On top of that, I don't think making House Dayne's coat of arms SO SIMILAR to first men/CoF/WW symbol is unintentional. IMO it is completely intentional, It has important role to play in show (and even greater in books). Please note, we are still waiting for new Sword of the Morning, and new Long Night is event definitely requiring someone picking this title and appropriate sword. Aegon of houses T&S with Dawn in one hand, and Longclaw in another? With a little help of Bran, Sir Arthur may teach him his fighting style

What story arc? In the show there's zero Dayne's "story arc". The sword's name is not even told, it's special nature and provenance is not evoked, all we have is Ser Arthur the great swordsman (who needs an other sword in his left hand which ruins the supposed magic specificity of Dawn IMHO)
falcotron
21 hours ago, Arthanis said: they have tons of mysterious similarities to Valyrians People are always saying that on this forum. But what mysterious similarities do the Daynes have to the Valyrians? They aren't dragonriders, they don't have dragon dreams, they don't have a history of mass slave-driven blood magic, etc. Ashara and Gerold—and nobody else of their generation, and no other Daynes we've been told of—have purple eyes. Gerold—and nobody else—also has silver-and-black striped hair (assuming he doesn't dye it). None of the Daynes have any other Targaryen features. That's all the similarities we know of. And there's nothing mysterious about that. For all we know, the two of them just have a Martell grandmother who's descended from Daeron II, or some random Velaryon or Essosi grandmother with purple eyes, or they just have the rare purple eyes that randomly pop up in all races on Planetos—the dragonlord families of Valyria had them a lot more often (for reasons which could be magical, but also make sense from simple genetics and ethology based on what we've been told), but not exclusively. And of course when GRRM was specifically asked whether Ashara's violet eyes means she's descended from Daeron II or some other Valyrian, he said: "… look, Elizabeth Taylor has violet eyes, and she's not of Valyrian descent (that I know). Nor is she related to Aegon the Conquerer. Many Swedes have blue eyes, but not all those with blue eyes are Swedes, and not all Swedes have blue eyes. The same confusions exist in the 7 Kingdoms…" And he followed up with: "If you want to figure out a family's descent, the names are a better clue than the eyes. Houses descended from the First Men tend to have simple short names, often descriptive. Stark. Reed. Flint. Tallhart (tall hart). Etc. The Valyrian names are fairly distinct are well: The "ae" usage usually suggests a Valyrian in the family tree. The Andal names are . . . well, neith Stark nor Targaryen, if that makes sense. Lannister. Arryn. Tyrell. Etc." In other words, the Daynes are a First Men family. 21 hours ago, Arthanis said: Aegon of houses T&S with Dawn in one hand, and Longclaw in another? So being a Targaryen gives him special abilities with the Daynes' First Men weapon, and being a Stark gives him special abilities with the Mormonts' Valyrian steel weapon?
