@HelenaExMachina, I have just found this...

Love 2 Cellos they’re amazing!.

I’m helping some friends with a gig on 2nd guitar in a couple of weeks so have been preparing for that and listening to what we’re doing a lot, mostly fun enjoyable stuff like the Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian covers so happy to help out :D, I’ve also got them to agree to covering Paranoid Android which I’ve wanted to do for ages but is quite a challenging song to pull off, I’m doing lead guitar and vocals on it!.

So who is this Julien Baker?  Really nice vocal on this cover of FR's Holy here.

Julien Baker is fantastic. Her solo stuff is usually just electric guitar (w/ some excellent looping and layering stuff) and vocals, though there's the occasional piano in there too. Two albums so far: Sprained Ankle and Turn Out the Lights. She's also part of the trio boygenius.

She also does what is not only my favorite Jawbreaker cover (I mean, I like it at least as much as if not more than the original), but one of my favorite covers period: "Accident Prone".

Anyway, click on some of those things and listen. Hope you enjoy.

ETA: Oh, and as for who she is, she's 23 and from Memphis. She played in hardcore and indie bands before recording a bunch of solo songs to share with her friends. Then those songs for friends kind of blew up.

I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station
Running scared,
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places
Only they would know...

Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a come-on from the whores
On Seventh Avenue
I do declare
There were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there, le le le

Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone
Going home
Where the New York City winters
Aren't bleeding me
Leading me
Going home

In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains.

I'm slowing beginning to appreciate just how good the new apparat album is.

These new puritans latest LP has be retrospectively wondering why i didn't love them previously.

American football is like some emo/prog rock hybrid. As if Jimmy eat world and pink Floyd were the only bands they ever listened to.

Strangely, the social unity we lack in real life is found here.

Also,

Doll Revolution, the Bangles.  (Stealing Rosemary, Good Son, ...)
