But, in the books, Rickon appears(at least for the time being), to be in safe hands. Bran can't sire anymore sons so I think in this instance, people wouldn't mind if it skipped over to Rickon. If so what of Jon? He's been named Robb's heir. I advice you to take the show with a lot of skepticism. They got rid of Rickon to make room for Jon. Benioff and Weiss decided from the get go that they would focus on Jon in the north. They diminished Rickon, Stannis, and totally left Aegon/Young Griff out to invent more plot for Jon. Chances are very good for Jon not coming back. Stannis, Rickon, and Aegon would have had more plot in the novels but the show went the other way. Book wise, Rickon has no more rights to the north than Jon because the Boltons were chosen by the reigning monarch to govern the north. But socially speaking, Rickon is more acceptable heir to the north than Jon if the Starks should ever get their status back.
Mimessa
I strongly vote no. His direwolf is named Shaggydog and a shaggy dog story is a pointless, tedious, longwinded joke. If all the direwolf names shed light on their humans, then Shaggydog isn't an exception. Rickon will be a great bargaining chip, sacrifice, and/or emotional gamechanger for other characters but ultimately hold no power of his own. He's really young in a world full of young movers & shakers and would naturally provoke some level of fathering/mothering/care from the mains while being a great item for a baddie to kidnap and use to manipulate folks' heartstrings. But, like his direwolf, ultimately a longwinded story that meanders till the time comes to just either die off for another person's gain or to take hold of some inconsequential corner of the remaining kingdom/s. As GRRM is a gardener when it comes to writing, Rickon is a great card to keep in his hand in case he needs to provoke the rest of the Starks into making certain actions.
