Cricket: ODIs Aren’t Proper Cricket Edition

Recommended Posts

4 down at lunch, with two new batsmen at the crease and only two more all-rounders to come - I don't like their chances of putting up a big score. Brave decision from Sarfraz to bat first in these conditions and it looks like it's backfired.

Oh dear. Sarfraz just got opened up like a can of peaches. What a turnaround this is. Bedtime and tears for me here in Sydney.

7/79, this is a bloodbath.

Sarfraz better hope it swings for the Pakis as well when they bowl soon.

It was definitely a much better performance from England, although we'll still have to see whether they can bat well enough to get a significant lead - they've made a decent start but they've basically only got five specialist batsmen so I don't have much faith about them making a big total. Jennings looked pretty good in his innings but it's a pity he couldn't turn his start into a significant score. The bowling was good, they've pretty much got the perfect bowling attack for these conditions.

He did look ok, certainly better than Stoneman has recently anyway. The concern would be he got out the same way he always seems to get out.

England will be disappointed that no one has kicked on to get a big score, but they are still well on their way to batting Pakistan out of this match. They are certainly applying themselves much better against the metronomic Abbas.

That was an absorbing day's play. Pakistan bowled well and England did well to get to 300. Bess and Curran look more comfortable than most of the batsmen we've tried in the top order in recent years. Now, if only they could bowl.

It is a bit weird, England have batted themselves into a good position despite no batsman having got to 50 so far. Nobody has managed to convert their start into a big score, although to be fair they were mostly dismissed by good balls rather than poor shots.

Pakistan still aren't entirely out of the match but it's becoming an increasingly big challenge for them to be able to save it.

Pakistan on their way to an innings defeat here methinks. Credit to England for a good comeback under pressure. Kind of a shame that both test matches were one-sided affairs though.

Ha don’t get me started on that. Two-test “series” are the bane of my fandom.

Two half centuries for Buttler right when England needed them - he might get a bit of a run in the Test team now.

But we've got to make space in the calendar for the event everyone is waiting for - a random five-ODI series against Australia because England haven't played them for almost 5 months.

It is silly that we don't have a third Test, especially since it isn't surprising that an England/Pakistan series could be 1-1 after two matches.

It was a slightly surprising selection, but I think it's been working well so far.

I absolutely agree. It’s ridiculous that we will have practically two months of summer without any Test cricket.
