4 Upcoming Battles: Steel, Ice, Blood & Fire (your predictions?)

I don't know about some your predictions, Sigella.

  • Battle of Fire:  Daenerys will be too busy winning the Dothraki over.  I think this battle will be fought without dragons.  I don't think the horn has power; however, blowing the horn will cause confusion for the good guys.  Remember, the horn is the signal.  Who knows what the horn sounds like?  A horn is a horn to many.  The sound of one horn can be mistaken for a signal.  The good defenders of the city of Meereen, the Free Company of Soldiers serving the Mother, the Ironborn, and the sellswords have the skills advantage over the Slavers and their hired armies.  But battles are mostly a game of numbers.  The less competent can win through sheer numbers.  I think the good guys, Team Daenerys, will get a victory but it may not be one-sided.  Many of the city defenders will die and many Ironborn ships will burn.  But yeah, it will be a costly win.  It may play out in such a way that it will require Dany, Drogon, and the Dothraki coming in to save the day.
  • Battle of Ice:  I see this battle being so close.  Stannis will pull off a brilliant strategy but it will fall short.  Think, Oberyn vs the Mountain.  Roose Bolton is as smart as Roose and they are fighting in the north.  Bolton is behind walls while Stannis is outside.  The only weakness the Boltons have is the lack of food, which is a problem that Stannis shares.  The Boltons have traitors in their midst, which Roose must suspect, but he remedied that when he sent the Manderly forces out.  Stannis roasted his men for cannibalism and the food shortage is not likely to abate any time soon, expect a mutiny.   The Boltons will get a narrow victory and Stannis will be captured as outlined in the famous Pink Letter.  The Boltons will have what Torrhen had before the Conquest.
  • Battle of Blood:  Euron has the element of surprise and the Redwynes, Hightowers, and Tyrells are soft compared to the Ironborn.  Euron will have his way out in the seas but he is no match for the Tyrells on land.  This one will be a draw, with Euron winning the sea battles but losing the ground wars.  However, because the Tyrells will be drawn to the battle between Aegon and the Lannisters, Euron will eventually manage to take and hold the Reach and the Riverlands.  He will get what Harren Hoare had.
  • Battle of Steel:  Aegon will win the Stormlands and get Dornish support.  I don't believe he will be able to advance on King's Landing because the Lannisters are too powerful still.  Aegon will gain control of Dorne and the Stormlands.  In other words, he will get what Durandon had, plus Dorne.

What I am predicting when the dust settles is a broken Westeros.  Westeros will pretty much revert back to the same conditions when Aegon first launched his conquest.  The Ironborn will have the seas and through attrition between the Tyrells and Aegon, he will become the new Black Harren.  Aegon becomes the new Argilac.  Either the Boltons or the Starks will be in the same situation that the Starks had under Torrhen.  Daenerys will play the role of Aegon and come to a divided Westeros that will have to be reconquered all over again.

Fire: There are already two dragons present at battle. One is circling above dropping burning plague-corpses among the Yunkaii. Excluding them seems a poor choice to me. :) Also GRRM always seem to write with a lot of free temporal wriggle room in order to surprise us so I'm also hoping for some of that.

Ice: Ok I'd buy into that.

Blood: Tyrrell host is in KL awaiting the trial (I assume most of Hightower's swords are included in there and even if they weren't I expect Hightower forces needs to defend Oldtown above anything else), Redwyne fleet just took Dragonstone so the only force that plays a reasonable part is RF and they will have the surprise on their side. The IF is in Mereen though so I still expect the IB to bite the dust in face of RF.

Steel: I'd deem your prediction correct with the reservation that the GC will mutiny and sell Aegon and Arianne both to the IT for pardons and lordships before any dornish forces can join them.

edit: I'm curious as hell as to what Varys will do about that :D

Ice: Stannis vs Boltons

I don't see much point in this but to give Stannis a part to play in the Second Dance of the Dragons after the so called battle of ice...

Spoiler
Quote

Stannis nodded.  "You will escort the Braavosi banker back to the Wall.  Choose six good men and take twelve horses."
     "To ride or eat?"
The king was not amused.  "I want you gone before midday, ser.  Lord Bolton could be on us any moment, and it is imperative that the banker return to Braavos.  You shall accompany him across the narrow sea."
"If there is to be a battle, my place is here with you."
"Your place is where I say it is.  I have five hundred swords as good as you, or better, but you have a pleasing manner and a glib tongue, and those will be of more use to me at Braavos then here.  The Iron Bank has opened its coffers to me.  You will collect their coin and hire ships and sellswords.  A company of good repute, if you can find one.  The Golden Company would be my first choice, if they are not already under contract.  Seek for them in the Disputed Lands, if need be.  But first hire as many swords as you can find in Braavos, and send them to me by way of Eastwatch.  Archers as well, we need more bows."
Ser Justin's hair had fallen down across one eye.  He pushed it back and said, "The captains of the free companies will join a lord more readily than a mere knight, Your Grace.  I hold neither lands nor title, why should they sell their swords to me?"
"Go to them with both fists full of golden dragons," the king said, in an acid tone.  "That should prove persuasive.  Twenty thousand men should suffice.  Do not return with fewer."
...
"As you command," Ser Justin said.
"It may be that we shall lose this battle," the king said grimly.  "In Braavos you may hear that I am dead.  It may even be true.  You shall find my sellswords nonetheless."
The knight hesitated.  "Your Grace, if you are dead — "
" — you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne.  Or die in the attempt."
Ser Justin put one hand on his sword hilt.  "On my honor as a knight, you have my word."

Fire: Daenerys vs Slavers

Daenerys is occupied in the Dothraki Sea. It will be up to Barristan, Tyrion, and Victarion to defeat the slavers. Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

Blood: Euron vs Redwyne Fleet

Not much point in a Redwyne victory, is there?

Steel: JonCon vs Storm End's garrison and Mace Tyrell's forces

The Last Storm foreshadows Jon Connington defeating Mace Tyrell between Storm’s End and Bronzegate, and that Randyll Tarly and his heir, Dickon, will be killed.

Ice: Ramsay & Roose will be fighting each other

Fire: I don't know, hopefully it moves the Mereenese plot forward

Blood: Euron's goal was not to lord of the shield islands, I wonder what his true motive and end game is.

Steel: Unfortunately Arianne is not her father's daughter and will probably mess up (Or more likely XYZ will use her)

Battle of Ice: Stannis prevails, but the cost is high, and he's left with a pyrrhic victory. He takes Winterfell but loses so many of his forces that he can't really press his claim.

Battle of Fire: Daenerys's forces win. We lose at least one POV in the process, though.

Battle of Steel: The Tyrell forces defect, joining forces with Connington, so there isn't really a battle.

Battle of Blood: Euron. Really hoping for some kraken action.

Battle of Ice: Stannis will win through a combination of the Night Lamp Theory and the Manderly forces defecting to his side. Still in the middle of a huge blizzard, so this victory might be short lived, since he still hasn't got many provisions.

Battle of Fire: Barristan's attack catches the slavers unawares and he scores a victory albeit a bloody one with heavy casualties. Barristan will probably die in the process, which will make me very sad, but then again it's the death he deserves. Dragons might or might not play a role.

Battle of Blood: No idea really, but I like Preston's idea about summoning the krakens and if it's just that they're somewhat of a counter to the WMDs called dragons.

Battle of Steel: JonCon and Aegon will take Storm's End through some trickery or another, since it can't be taken by force. So it won't be much of a battle. The Tyrell forces won't defect to Aegon unless the charges against Margaery have been dropped.

Can't wait for WoW to find out!

Ice: Stannis wins. Preceeds to capture Winterfell.

Fire: Targaryen victory. The slavers loose , Barristan dies and Victarion blows the horn only to die himself.

Blood: Euron crushes everyone. Sacrifices his brother and unborn child to crush the Redwyne fleet.

Steel: JonCon takes Storms end. Mace arrives later , he does something foolish and dies. Tarly defects.

Ice: I suspect some tom-foolery. The Frey forces will be utterly slaughtered but Stannis will be presumed dead (hence the 'Pink Letter'), so the Boltons will claim it as a victory even though many of Stannis's forces, including the Mountain clans, can't be found and nor can Stannis's actual body. This will prelude Winterfell being infiltrated by Stannis and the remainder of his forces with the help of Theon.

Fire: Barristan will win the battle but the Brazen Beasts will turn on him and kill him. I don't trust Skahaz. I also suspect the Yunkai loyal to Hizdar will also come into this somewhere. Then, yes, Victarion will blow the horn, die and one (if not both) of Viserion and Rhaegal will fly off towards the "horn's master".

Blood: Euron will absolutely slaughter them. He may summon krakens with all that blood. Aeron and Falia may be sacrificed.

Steel: Not sure about this one but I can't see it ending with anything other than JonCon's victory. I suspect the Tyrell forces will be defeated because Randyll has already defected and will turn on them. This will lead to Arianne finally meeting Aegon and deciding to given him the Dornish seal of approval, probably leading to a marriage between the two.

Winds spoilers...

Spoiler

Then you know that Aegon has already taken Storm's End, and that he is preparing to face a host led by Mace or Randyll.

And you know that Margaery and Cersei have won their trials.

Battle of Ice: Manderly will return to Winterfell "triumphant" over Stannis after having tragically lost all of the Freys in the battle. (He'll probably leave some of his own forces with Stannis to make this less glaring) Following that, Stannis will take Winterfell through cunning, with some help from Theon (and some inside assistance from some of the Manderly forces)

Battle of Fire: Complete chaos. Victarion causes lots of chaos, Tyrion gets the Second Sons to flip sides and they kill a lot of people outside of the walls, the dragons get loose and incinerate friend and foe alike. By the end of the battle, casualties will be massive on all sides.

Blood: Really no clue. Euron is obviously going to have success for some time to come, but I think he'll suffer a few losses along the way as well.

Steel: Aegon and Connington take Storm's End without massive difficulties, probably through some sort of cunning trick.

Ice: I know this may be naive to think, but I think Stannis is going to crush the Boltons. The Night Lamp sounds legit to me, and we've waited 5 books for the supposed best general is Westeros to show his expertise. I also think the Manderly army is close to Winterfell and will storm the castle once the Bolton column is gone, with most, if not all, the Northern houses turning on the Boltons. Stannis marches onto Winterfell to find the Direwolf and Merman hanging from the battlements.

Fire: Total shitshow. Dany's crew wins, but with devastating losses and bailed out by Victarion. Frankly, the image of the Iron Fleet quietly slipping in among the Volantine fleet and the worlds best marines getting to work is one of the things I'm most excited about in WoW. The dragons are obviously a wild card, not sure what they'll do beyond terrorize everyone.

Blood: Not sure. I know a lot of people are on board with the Kraken idea, but I'm not sold. I could see Euron trying some blood magic and failing, but he survives and doubles-down on the crazy. I think the combined Redwyne/Hightower forces are way too strong for him to soundly defeat without an ace up his sleeve. Without magic, I see a bloody and indecisive battle with the Redwyne's commanding the "field" at the end.

Steel: I mean, Aegon and Connington have to win, right? I'm in the camp that believes Aegon is legit (or at least want him to be) and he needs his "here I am" moment. One way or another, I don't think it comes to blows between Mace and Connington.

Not in like a year honestly. Probably need a refresher before I try talking it, this was more what I want to happen, facts be damned.

And after reading so many threads in here on the Pink Letter, I've pretty much just thrown my hands up and am just waiting for George to actually tell us. I want to say it's BS, but not sure whos.
