Bazzlebane
Add Flowers to that list for the Reach. Each area should *definitely* feature the bastard names amongst the potential surnames.
French DireWolf
Add Flowers to that list for the Reach. Each area should *definitely* feature the bastard names amongst the potential surnames. Maybe we could event put the bastard name many times, in order to have it more often than the other names...

Maester Yobjascz
ETA : Didn't wait long enough... so this post contains the Vale *followed by* Dorne... The Vale - Note: I've tried to keep the Freys separate for the Riverland names... too many Walders, Waltyrs, Waldas, etc. otherwise. Where, as often happens, someone marries a Frey, I omit the rest of that family from the naming, unless the names are obvious variants of other local names. Maester Yobjascz
Okay... that does it for the names... at least those associated with lordly families. There are others (like Sharna and Barra) that are smallfolk names mentioned in the books, but are not included on the lists (They're not on Tower of the Hand in an easily accessible manner). Also not included are any of the Targaryen names (except where they've been used by other families... like the Freys). So, there's a couple of Aemons and Shieras running around, but no Viserys, Rhaegars, or the like. A few other notes: Some names, like Rickon and Jeyne are fairly common... and might well be added to all the regions (except perhaps Dorne, which is culturally *very* different from all the other regions). Once the names are deposited into a spreadsheet (which I don't currently have access to, otherwise these names would be alphabetized), it should be fairly easy to see which names appear in more than 2 houses... if they do, I'd add them to the others (except, as noted above, Dorne). So... what's next?
Marcus
Well, Cersei and co need to be tossed into Joff's faction... Well chewie, what is next? resources?

Maester Yobjascz
So.... resources? That might be a bit tough to develop... traits might be easier. Most of us here know the characters far better then we know where materials are found. ... though, off the top of my head, we know that there's significant mineral resources on the Iron Islands, and gold deposits in the Westerlands, predominantly around Casterly Rock. Beyond that, I've not the faintest clue.

Werthead
There are tons of iron on the Iron Islands (no, it's not just a name). In the north the area around the Dreadfort is volcanic, so probably very fertile in good weather. The Arbor is a strong centre for wine production, although both the Reach and Dorne probably have some as well. Gold and silver in the Westerlands, obviously. The Stormlands and the North are heavily forested, so probably the wood resources could go there. The Vale of Arryn would also have strong mineral resources, I imagine. Would it be possible to put the exotic trade goods (silks and so forth) just outside the port cities, as trade goods? Is it possible to create our own trade goods? Weirwood in the North, yewwood in Dorne etc?
Ran
Wert, In the north the area around the Dreadfort is volcanic. I admit, I don't recall this. What's the source?
Maester Yobjascz
In the north the area around the Dreadfort is volcanic. Ran, I believe this is taken from some info in the CCG... haven't seen it myself, but read it here on the boards awhile back... ahhh... here 'tis: Now to what we know about the Dreadfort, which is actually mostly taken from the CCG, I believe. The Dreadfort is built on hard rock (volcanic?) next to the river known as the Weeping Water. Seven centuries ago, the Starks laid siege to the castle with all the power of the North and it took four years to fall. Obviously it's a very defensible castle, probably with generous stores and impressive fortifications and can be held by a small force against a vastly superior foe. Original post here ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is it possible to create our own trade goods? Weirwood in the North, yewwood in Dorne etc? Is there much trade in Weirwood? Happy Ent would have a fit... So long as we're debating this... what're the 'vanilla' trade goods? And is there the ability to change them? I agree with much of what Wert suggested... though I disagree with weirwood being a commodity. We don't see anything suggesting that, at least, not that I'm aware of. General tradeable goods that come to mind... gold, silver, iron, timber, wine. Special commodities: Arbor wine, myrish lace, dornish yew, dornish oranges/spices, Dragonstone obsidian (perhaps from Dreadfort as well, if it is volcanic)... Ran
The CCG has that kind of info? Interesting. Although I rather suspect I know the source of it...
