Tobho being able to work VS was already quite the plot convenience imho, Gendry having that skill would feel like straight up cheating by the writer(s), although at least the show most likely wouldn't care making that logical leap. Giantsbane, wielder of Heartsbane! Sam could execute Dany with it after she burns down King's Landing. What goes around comes around. Sam could kill the Night King with it. Sam could keep it as part of his authority once he becomes Warden of the South, and just be satisfied that he got everything his father didn't want him to have. Why is this? Do you think Tobho would take the secret of reworking Valyarain steel to the grave with him? Gendry wasn't just any apprentice, he was Tobho's favorite apprentice. Such much so that Tobho went out of his way to secure his safety by sending him to the night's watch, making him untouchable to Cersei's grasp. You like comparisons, so think about this: You had a favorite teddy bear as child. The bear gets ground to pieces, two little bears are woven from them and used. He might have shared the knowledge, but you can't really learn a craft just in theory, you have to practice it and there is no valyrian steel just laying around to train on. As I said, if Gendry was still Tobho's apprentice while he forged Oathkeeper and Widows wail for Tywin, he might be able to repeat/reverse that procedure. He would still need to be a really, really, really gifted blacksmith to pull it off first try on his own, but I could buy it in a TV series. But alas, he was already gone at that point. Also, who is to say he (tobho) didn't have valyrian steel of his own, or perhaps someone else other than Tywin approached him while Gendry was still there. They are priceless artifacts, so rare and expensive that not even Tywin was able to buy one. Even ones that were lost decades or centuries ago are still remembered. Never stated they were cheap, but, In A Storm of Swords, Tyrion thinks to himself, "Valyrian steel blades were scarce and costly, yet thousands remained in the world, perhaps two hundred in the Seven Kingdoms alone," 1) Bright roar 2) Blackfyre 3) Dark Sister 4) Lamentation 5) Orphan Maker 6) Vigilance 7) Truth Chances are that a lot of these Swords were not really lost, but sold or stolen and reforged, and circulate in the blackmarket. It can be seen in a very short time in the trailer. I am not sure about that, since even if you stopped the video, you could not perfectly see that it was Heartsbane.
