red wedding

why were the freys  and boltons willing to risk the destruction of their house on the red wedding since if it failed or some of the targets escaped they would face retaliation/resistance from the survivors and anyone who was a stark/tully supporter and maybe even  risk of the vale intervening  because of the murder of Catelyn stark who was the sister of the regent of the vale(also baelish  would want to avenge the murder of his beloved Catelyn so he would get Lysa to send vale military against freys and boltons and also have control over thee kingdoms the riverlands vale and north once boltons/freys defeated).

Either way Walder Frey is taking a gamble: he can't play both sides at this stage of the game. So he has to choose which side to back: he chose the side he right would be the winners.

You could just as easily ask "Why would Frey throw in with Robb Stark, a 15 year old kid trying to fight the wealth of Casterly Rock and armies of every house loyal to the king?" Its a risk either way.

Once Baelish helped the Lannisters join forces with the Tyrells it was a wrap for Robb and his kingdoms. With the Iron Born in North and Riverlands being surrounded by enemies, it was a matter of time before they lost a drawn out bloody war. Walder and Roose wanted a way to capitalize on this.

The Freys still maintain that they entered the Edmure/Roslin wedding alliance with honest intentions, and that they only turned on Robb because he and his men turned into a Werewolfs and started attacking innocent Frey folk.

but baelish does  and he can get lysa to send vale military against bolton/freys

Does he? Why did he arrange the Tyrell alliance that doomed her family? Why did he make sure that Lysa did not offer support?

Even towards the end all Robb was asking for was to be able to travel to Gulltown so he could sail home and Lysa (presumably under Littlefinger's guidance) said no, made him go through the Twins.

Littlefinger may have loved Cat when he was younger but his actions in the series have shown him to not give a shit about Cat

Why would they be afraid of Lysa Arryn, who didn't even send forces in the war to begin with?

Petyr Baelish also doesn't care about Cat.
