Am I misremembering, or has N'Zonzi not played at right-back? He's not a specialist but few teams take two specialist right-backs (England this year being an exception).

I have no idea if N'Zonzi has played RB before. He's been playing defensive midfield at Sevilla and he played midfield at Stoke too iirc.

ETA. I think one of the CBs (Pavard maybe) could slot in as 2nd choice RB.

As I said, it's a pretty low-grade scandal.

I think millions of football fans will disagree with you.

Famously, England fixed the draw in '66.

No, they didn't. They used English refs to fuck with the best teams.

Pavard will be the French backup RB. More of a CB - so will lack Sidibe's attacking impact, but is a better defender than him.

Would have liked to see Rony Lopes in Portugal's squad after 13 goals for Monaco this season.

I think they won't. It's a scandal, yes, but not a major one.

They also rigged the draw so they could play all their games at Wembley.

So, as I see it, we are much less stacked than, say, Argentina or Brazil are, especially with forwards. And what about our fullbacks ? Should Sidibé or Mendy be concerned with injury or suspension, we are screwed.

No international team is fully stacked in every position. Argentina might have better forwards but their midfield options can't touch yours. Brazil's is a little stronger but still not as good as yours. That's how international football is.

I'm going with @mormont here. This doesn't seem like a big scandal to me since the host nation and defending champions have been allocated groups in such a way that they will be on opposite sides of the draw provided they both win their respective groups for quite some time now. The only exception was 2002 when we had two host nations and they were arranged in a way that South Korea and Japan would not meet each other until the final or 3rd place playoff.

So even though France and Brasil were grouped in such a way that they would not meet until the final, both teams had to still win their groups or both finish second to ensure they would be on opposite sides of the draw and of course win all their knockout games to reach the final.

Well, France are one of the favorites to win the World Cup, so of course they have a good and deep squad.

Brazil, France, Germany, Spain (alphabetical order) are the big four this year imo.

The next tier of teams are probably Argentina, Belgium and (to a somewhat lesser extent) Portugal, who still have some chances to win it, but are not quite as strong the aforementioned teams.

ANyway back to some transfer shenanigans. It looks like Gladbach has decided poaching for English talents is their way forward. Keanen Bennetts (Tottenham) has signed a four year deal with them. And they are rumoredly still frontrunners for the signing for Liverpool's Brewster,  and the scousers are apparently not particularly happy about that.
