I want more Yoru Sulfur, he is one of the most intriguing minor characters I find and I would like more of him.

And just to balance it out, more Ishri. She's still got it, as she would say...

I wonder if the unfortunate Aliz Dan Brint will ever be seen again.

Only problem is that more "screen time" means more opportunities for bad things to happen in the world of first law.

Ishri or any additional light shined on khalul and the gurkish would be welcome.

More screen time is indeed more time for bad things to happen, however there are certain characters where that really doesn't worry me - Yoru and Ishri fall I to that category.

Really hoping for more Gurkhul insight too

True, Yoru has done some shitty things so some karmic payback probably fair.

I imagine that Glokta's reaction towards revolutionary socialist agitation is to double down on repression.

Well, let's just say that he's not too keen to let this shit fly. . . ;)

We do see him in a number of scenes. And yes, shit seems to follow him.

Not much in that department, other than loads of refugees running away from the war and people of the Union not happy with all these problem-ridden brown faces now plaguing their cities.

i'd rather go in totally blind, any chance you can spoiler tag stuff from now on?

I apologise for posting a spoiler earlier, which was rightly deleted.

But, it's not spoiling that much to guess what Glokta (or Ardee or Savine) would  think about socialist revolutionaries.

Whatever people want. There will never be any true spoilers, have no fear.

I could also just stop responding to posts if that's what the majority prefers.

Please continue.  I'm on tenterhooks.

The talk here questioning the upcoming sales figures surprises me a bit... I would think that anyone who had read his stuff so far would be equally excited for the new releases.

I know he is a huge hit on these forums (that's where I found him long ago) but what kind of sales figures did he hit?  How did he compare with the other hot releases around that time like Lynch et al?  Could @Werthead shed some light on that?

Wert's SFF sales list has Joe Abercrombie at 5 million + books sold.  Which is listed as well above Lynch, although somehow I think that Lynch's number is significantly out of date.

Joe has seven (?) more novels than Lynch too... which is why I wonder about the discussion about whether he can still sell or not.  :dunno:

A little bit, but Abercrombie's sales are very, very solid. He's likely a fair bit above 5 million now as well. He's approaching half of Sanderson's non-WoT sales (with far fewer books) which is pretty damn good.

There is no question that Abercrombie can sell. At least he used to. But with the years gone by and no adult fantasy novel published in a long time, the question is whether or not readers will buy A Little Hatred right off the bat and pay hardcover price for it, or if they'll wait to see which way the wind blows and maybe go for the mass market paperback or the discounted ebook edition.

To give you an example, and this can change drastically in the coming weeks, Abercrombie's latest is ranked 11, 708 on amazon.com as far as pre-orders are concerned. Modesitt's The Mage-Fire War, which comes out around the same time, is ranked 6202. Lee told me that basically every Recluce installment sells around 10,000 units on the week of its release. He has a very loyal readership and these numbers haven't changed much over the years.

À la Mark Lawrence, who outsells most NYT bestselling fantasy authors and yet never appears on the list, Joe could have an ok first week but sell steadily for several weks afterward. And/or sell from sources whose numbers don't put you on the NYT list and in the end outsell some NYT bestsellers.

Time will tell. It's been 7 years since Red Country and that's an eternity in publishing.

I'm convinced that most Abercrombie readers will return at some point. But it might not be right out of the gate.

So if you want to do something about it, pre-order the book or buy it upon release. :)
