Westworld VIII: Forging On

I thought seasons 1 and 2 both had very similar flaws. They had incredible moments and episodes - season 2's episode about James Delos is my favourite thing the show has done, and  the Kiksuya episode was also excellent. In season 1 there was the phenomenal pilot, and the backstage adventures of Maeve were also a highlight. But both seasons were so concerned about keeping plot twists a secret, even though many were easy to predict, that the overall season arcs don't amount to much. In season 1 we got endless episodes of looking for the center of the maze, in season 2 it was endless episodes of traveling to the Forge and along the way to both there's tons of meandering and characters hitting the same beats and having the same cryptic conversations over and over, kind of like Lost at its worst. I've always been confused why season 2 received so much more hate than season 1 in this regard. I hope Season 3 gets rid of a lot of these pointless narrative shenanigans and tells a season-long story that's worth it; but if it doesn't, and still delivers a few excellent episodes, it'll be pretty par for the course for this show, and I can't say I'll be disappointed.

I recently watched season two and was surprised by how much I liked it. I've seen a number of complaints about the show being pretentious, but with the exception of perhaps the final episode, I didn't get that vibe. The interviews with the cast and showrunners, on the other hand. . .

But I honestly just deflated when I watched the season three trailer. I am so tired of Hollywood Hitler-porn. It reminded me of a really fascinating analysis that I watched recently on the omnipresence of Hitler in pop culture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm8qm5e-mcg&t=3s

I'm not sure why one would complain about the show exploiting nazis like hollywood tends to do.  I mean, that's the entire conceit of the parks, society's exploitation of the west, samurai culture, etc.

You bring up a valid point, and perhaps Westworld will be able to convey this in a compelling way. But frankly, I'm not holding my breath. I don't have faith in Hollywood--which Westworld is a part of, even if the show is critical of it--to pull that off at this point.

Like I said earlier there's not really any living people to be upset about the other parks being portrayed in terms of they lived that experience. But in-show I totally agree that people will be "that was 2 centuries ago so no different for them".

I think it's also worth noting how much "India-world" featured in season 2. We could be getting upset about something that features, at most, in one episode.

Chances also are, if any robots need rescuing from shitty treatment in "WW2world" it's going to be the ones portraying jewish people. Maybe they'll surprise and have a Nazi robot beome self-aware purely on the principle it can't abide the evil things its being forced to carry out.

Hopefully this is suggestive of season 3 having a cracking story as I'd have thought there'd be a little bit of wait and see hesitance given the show seems to be changing quite a bit

Just watched all the trailers. Really excited for season 3. If they replace split timelines with instead an in the park and out of park storyline that converges, I think that is a nice improvement.

The Incite thing is weird and sort of Lost like.

Ingot the impression Incite as a company will be using the personal guest datafrom the park. That got out in season two right? I need to rewatch this...

Yeah that's my read on it too. "The future is powered by you. And we know you." Its that line.
