No James Rodriguez in the Colombia starting 11. Huge for England

Indeed - him missing for Colombia is a much bigger blow than England losing Delph (who’s gone home for the birth of his child)

Weird that Southgate still persists with Young at LWB. He really offers very little in attack. He had a good spell for a time at United last season when he was willing to go on the outside and use his left foot but then promptly reverted to being a cut-in merchant. Utterly predictable, offers no width and doesn't make runs in behind either.

Rose has looked off the pace and Bertrand is at home. He doesn't have too much choice from game to game here.

England edged the half. We were playing through the Colombian press well to begin with, but it began to work more effectively after the first fifteen mins.  Despite that they have expended a lot of energy chasing the England players for little reward - though their attempts to break the game up at set pieces has bought them some respite. Seemingly their plan has been to get it out wide right to their quick players to target Maguire and Young on the left of the England defence, then get it into Falcao. Alli looking off the pace has not helped, so Kane has had to come deep too often but it has opened some channels up for Sterling, who has made some good runs.

England have been reasonably comfortably the better side but they haven't done a great deal with it. Sterling's losing the ball a lot, some of that's down to him trying things in the final third, which is fair enough, but there's more than a few poor touches in there as well.

You could probably make a fairly strong case that Barrios could have had a red card but, you know, whatever.

I'd rather put TAA at LWB in that case. He's better than Young in attack and not a downgrade defensively either. At least he might look to run in behind or take on the opposing fullback rather than constantly cutting inside and either getting dispossessed or playing backwards and sideways passes.
