Consigliere
Germany pulled an England. Didn't deserve to go through - rubbish today, rubbish against Mexico and got lucky against Sweden.
MisterOJ
So, which is the biggest disappointment/embarrassment: The United States missing out on the World Cup entirely, or Germany finishing last in its group?
Consigliere
Germany finishing last in the group. The USA have never been anywhere close to being considered a major force in football. Disappointing that they couldn't get out of CONCACAF qualifying but not close to the same level as Germany finishing rock bottom of a group containing Mexico, Sweden and South Korea. BigFatCoward
I really want Brazil to get knocked out as well, just to watch Neymar crying like the little baby he is. Also, all footballers should take a leaf out of Thomas Mueller's book, the way he was speaking to the referee after the VAR decision to find out how long was left, no histrionics, not right in his face. Very classy.

Disturber of Peace
This looks like there will be no surprises. People will just be curious about where in the knockout bracket will Brazil be.

Germany finishing last is definitely the bigger embarrassment, especially since they are always lucky and the ruling champions. US is strong it its region, but a minor in the tournament so that doesn't really matter in the grand scale of things.
polishgenius
Brazil have had slow periods in both games they've played so far so it's way too early to write this one off.

Germany are the best team in the world (officially). The USA aren’t even the best in CONCACAF. Italy and even the Netherlands not qualifying is more disappointing than the US (and Sweden have shown they deserve the place they got ahead of those two)

Here's the bracket. Might be better for Brazil if they finish second as that sends them to the easier right side of the bracket. As things stand, they top the group. Winterfell is Burning
THE MIGHTY SWISS TEAM HAS QUALIFIED! Oh, you think it was an embarrassment to finish 2nd, but it was all part of our master plan of world (cup) domination- we're know in the easiest branch and will no doubt breeze into the finals. Iskaral Pust
Coutinho has been more important to Brazil than Neymar so far. He scored their only goal in the first game, got the match-winning opening goal in the second game (Neymar added a second in garbage time) and then created their opener/winner today (Neymar assisted the second from a corner kick). While Willian and Gabriel Jesus have been a bit ineffective after great club seasons. They’re still not firing on all cylinders but they’ve only conceded one goal so far. At the moment, looking at qualified teams of Russia, Uruguay, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, Croatia, Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, England, Belgium and two of Japan/Senegal/Colombia, no-one stands out as amazing or unbeatable. Croatia and Belgium are the most balanced so far, Brazil have a latent threat that could catch fire, Portugal look frugal and efficient. The next tier is Spain and France whose defense and attack respectively look improbably shaky and uncoordinated but could be dangerous if they suddenly find some form. England are hard to predict because that MF and defense looks like it could get over-run by a good opponent, but they’re really good at set pieces so far. Just about anyone could grab this tournament with a little luck or form. I’d like to see Croatia or Belgium do it from here.
Erik of Hazelfield
I’m really impressed by our Swedish warriors. To shake off such a heavy last-minute loss against Germany and deliver a stunning 3-0 victory against Mexico truly requires character. Switzerland next. Shouldn’t be impossible but all the remaining teams are good. I agree that no team seems unbeatable this year - just about any team could win this. Awesome tournament so far! He's not lost any ability, but I think the problem is he's spent too much time being indulged at PSG and now, every time he gets the ball, he trots about and has a think about whether he can do something fancy, rather than playing quickly. That, or he's returning after three months out with an injury.
