There's a question I have about #2.  If there are a few specific things that go up in price due to Trump's easy-to-win trade wars like washing machines but it's not across the board do we even think of that as inflation in the traditional sense?

We generally think of inflation as a change in the general price level, not mere relative price changes between commodities (except of course inflation can be thought of as the relative price change of goods with respect to money).

Team Trump and World health (literally) -

When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. Ecuador, which had planned to introduce the measure, was the first to find itself in the cross hairs.

The Americans were blunt: If Ecuador refused to drop the resolution, Washington would unleash punishing trade measures and withdraw crucial military aid. The Ecuadorean government quickly acquiesced.

The showdown over the issue was recounted by more than a dozen participants from several countries, many of whom requested anonymity because they feared retaliation from the United States

Don't worry. I'm sure the formula manufactures will go to Davos and sing we are the world. So it's all good.

Conservatives and libertarians probably love the idea that kids whose parents who don’t have access to clean drinking water or birth control will have babies who die from baby formula sold by corporations is mixed with toxic water that will kill them, naturally.

Those babies just need to learn to pull themselves up by their bootie straps!

It's now recommended by this administration that the unborn begin pulling themselves up with their umbilical cords.  Once they take that first breath they'll be getting NOT ONE STINKING DIME  of taxpayer money.

To be a little bit devil's advocate-y, there are already marketing prohibitions in place (recommended by the WHO) to stop infant formula companies from claiming that infant formula is equal to or better than breast milk, or "breast milk substitute / equivalent". And there is some sensitivity around the extent to which the promotion of breast is best starts to become guilt-tripping women who choose to bottle feed, or for whatever reason cannot breast feed.

It's certainly 5 steps too far to threaten economic aid to developing countries if they support this breast-feeding resolution.

I do think the hard core breast-feeding advocates strike a bit of a judgy tone towards women who don't breast feed. And of course, perhaps without the Trump admin realising it, strongly promoting breast feeding as the way to go for babies implies male gay couples should not be raising newborns, because they will typically not have access to breast milk. So is the strong promotion of breast feeding indirectly homophobic, specifically against gay men? And is the trump admin blocking it an unintended support for male gay couples?

I'm sure most or all of the motivation to oppose the resolution comes from looking out for the commercial interests of infant formula companies. But there can be legitimate arguments made to ensuring WHO resolutions on breast feeding are well moderated and not dictated by breast-feeding hardliners.

If the parents do not have safe access to clean water, than this decision is evil. Of course privileged people have more options, and the drop in immunization benefits can be tolerated. Men or women who can not breastfeed would have to use bottles, of course, but the general support for breastfeeding is important for health and bonding reasons. In developing countries, it can be a life or death decision.

The water will be all that much cleaner by gutting dumping and water quality regulations. Of course we will all suffer from free to pollute choices.

Really pathetic, yet more Obamacare sabotage. And Republicans still have no healthcare plan that doesn't involve just cutting healthcare for reasons.

Trump administration freezes billions in Obamacare payments, outraging advocates

The Trump administration is freezing billions of dollars of payments to Obamacare health insurers, another blow to the fragile markets as health plans begin to set premiums and get ready for the next enrollment season.

The so-called risk adjustment payments are supposed to protect insurers from big losses. The health plans pay into a pool — this doesn’t involve tax dollars — and funds are transferred to insurers that ended up with many high cost patients. In 2017, $10.4 billion was involved.

For those here whining about the collapse of the left - ordinary citizens are now really aggressively confronting conservative politicians everywhere.  If this gets ramped up a few notches, how many boarders here will participate?  And is there any chance the conservative politicians in question will grasp just how loathed many of their policies are?

People criticized punching Richard Spencer, but that was basically the last time he was in public view.

People criticized being uncivil to the Republicans, but it drove Pruitt out of office.

It works. Do it more.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and fuck with conservative politicians.

And I'm all out of bubble gum.

And of course ultimately it came down to this:

In the end, the Americans’ efforts were mostly unsuccessful. It was the Russians who ultimately stepped in to introduce the measure — and the Americans did not threaten them.

They won't reflect on the hatred but dig in even further to the right. The only way to change anything is to vote.

The treasonous nazi-russians don't give a shyte what the voters think, or whether what they're doing is popular or not.  They're doing what they want, what they've planned, strategized, funded and lied for for decades.  Period.  So keep pushing back in every possible way.

There are 135 million Americans younger than 55 (and older than 18) and they will cast a mere 47 million votes in the 2018 general election, meanwhile there are 90 million Americans older than 55 and they will cast 55 million votes.

the 47 million is still eleven million more votes than those under 49 cast four years ago. But gen x and millenials really suck at voting compared to boomers.

This has always been an interesting dichotomy of the (progressive) left. They tend to think that the US is a white supremacist country, with a corrupt republican party, an unfair, oppressive justice system and trigger happy cops. Many of those same people also think it's a good idea for people to give up their guns. I don't know how they reconcile the two.
