It’s not even how low the bar is set, it’s the fact that there is no bar at all.

SurveyMonkey is hot garbage for political polling (D- rating from 538). CBS did a live-caller poll, which found 68% of Republicans supported Trump's handling of summit; far lower than the 79% in SurveyMonkey. That seems high, but is actually a crazy low level of support from a political party for an action from their party's President.

It’s almost exactly the same as the response to his Charlottesville ‘on many sides’ presser.

It's also frustrating that the focus has been very much on Republican support rather than Independent and overall support. That's much more important in the grand scheme of things. We know Trump has a base and we know after 2 years of conditioning, they believe everything he says and nothing the traditional media reports. This isn't news and the framing of all these polls around Republican support is tiresome.

It is very frustrating.  It's like if something polls above 75% for Republicans, then it is "popular" and you should expect Trump and Congress to definitely do it.  The opinions of the remaining 70-80% of the country are irrelevant.

It's also (though probably not entirely the same people) roughly the level of support Bush had in his last couple years in office. More fuel for the idea that you'll found at least around a third of people in favor of just about anything.

Also, at least some number of those people didn't actually hear any news about the summit but felt the need to say they supported Trump rather than the give "Don't Know/Not Sure" answer.

Darth Cheney polled at around 29 percent. I have always used that as a yardstick of people that are completely hopeless.

Trump promised them better, cheaper health care. It’s not happening.

A key small business group says Trump’s new insurance rules are unworkable, after pushing the idea for nearly 20 years.

But the NFIB, which vigorously promoted association health plans for two decades, now says it won’t set one up, describing the new Trump rules as unworkable. And the NFIB isn’t the only one: Several of the nationwide trade groups that cheered Trump’s new insurance rules told POLITICO they’re still trying to figure out how to take advantage of them and whether the effort is even worth it.

Republicans Just Refused to Spend More to Secure States’ Vulnerable Election Systems

https://slate.com/technology/2018/07/republicans-refused-to-spend-more-to-secure-states-vulnerable-election-systems.html

Quote

Republicans argued that Congress already doled out $380 million this year in grants to states to update their systems, pointing out that many of those states still have money left over and that there haven’t been new requests from states for more money. But Democrats responded that some states have only just received their grants and other state officials are unlikely to request more funding if it’s not already available.

We know Democrats hate Trump and Independents seem to be tuning out. That's why people are watching to see if there's finally a moment when the dam breaks.

What happens between two good friends in the Oval Office stays in the Oval Office.
