He's also had a lot of poor service in the last 2 games.

Through the midfield, yeah, but Trippier's consistently been the best creator of chances in the tournament and a striker of Kane's quality should be at least getting on the end of some of them.

Is Harry Kane the most Under-performing top-scorer in WCs recent history ? Dude has almost disappeared for the whole Knock-out stage, and still he's gonna grab the Golden boot award. Massive disappointment.

Hell, the WC Golden boot was once (co-) won, in 1994, by Oleg Salenko, who only played in the group stages since Russia were knocked out. Scored six goals, five of them in one game. Only international goals he ever scored and he never played for them again. Proper weird career.

Cameroon received the day before the match unpaid wages and bonuses by their FA, and celebrated with a party in which many drank until late in the night.

It's not Kane's fault that England lack the kind of midfielder that would organize the attack and, at the opportune moment, give a pass that would result in a quality scoring chance for Kane (cf. Luka Modric). For Kane to be effective, he basically had to go back to get the ball and then run with it himself which had two problems: it's tiring and when he managed to make it work, people kept fouling him. Kane did miss a few decent chances, but honestly, it's hard to play that way.

I'm curious which keeper will receive the Golden Glove. Pickford, apparently, asked Southgate not to bench for this game, because he wanted to be contention, but despite some good saves, he let two in. Still, Pickford did distinguish himself at this tournament, and it was a great decision by Southgate to have him in goal, and certainly not bring in Joe Hart.

That being said, Courtois matched, or maybe overcame, Ochoa's number of saves at the tournament, so he is ahead at least in terms of numbers of saves and minutes played. He's also been tremendous in getting his team going on counter-attacks.

Lloris played well, and France hasn't, so far, conceded many goals, but he also hasn't had that many saves, I don't think.

Right now, my money is on Subasic, (Courtois a close 2nd) though he didn't play in the 3rd group match. But he kept clean sheets in the other 2 group matches, and Croatia didn't concede, so far, too many goals in the knockout stages. He also had 3 penalty saves in the shootout with Denmark, and one in the shootout with Russia.

Even as a Belgian (Thibaut ;)) I must say Subasic is great. I think he just deserves the Golden Glove because of his willpower. What he did during the game against Russia, was kind of amazing.

As for the Golden Glove, today will tell us if Subasic deserves it more than Lloris, which I doubt so. Lloris was instrumental for France from the very beginning of the tournament, until the KO matches.

Otherwise, it turns out that if France win today (the most likely result IMO), that will be a CL+WC double for Raphael Varane. Are we gonna have a defender on the Ballon d'Or podium for the first time since Cannavaro in 2006 ?

Having said that, depending on what happens today, Modric could also genuinely win the Ballon d'Or, which would make him the first ever Croatian player to do it.

9 minutes in and France has basically not had a possession yet.

It’s pretty much how France play though, sit back and defend and then hit teams on the counter. For all their attacking talent Deschamps has them playing in a pretty conservative fashion.

A blatant dive from Griezmann there. And it results in a goal. What a twat.

Griezman: It doens't matter how you play, only that you win.
