What if Walder Frey came early to Trident?

Recommended Posts

How would it affect series? Because if he came early to Trident he would not find anyone to fight. Then he could go to come back later and Hoster would still call him The late lord Frey not believing his story about coming earlier than anyone else. It could make Walder Frey more humiliated and angry about Robb because his good behaviour wasn't awarded.

A large army like the Frey have will leave marks on the ground that would prove they were there.

What if Lord Walder had arrived at The Trident on time.  He might have gotten killed.  But say he survives.  Hoster can't call him the Late Lord Frey but find some other way to insult him.

No one was expecting him to come early to the trident, he was expected to come when House Tully called for him. Like Tywin Lannister he only showed up when he knew the rebels had won. Had Rhaegar won at the Battle of the Trident then the rebel forces would have retreated back towards the Riverlands where they would run into House Frey, who in turn would capture them and hand them over to House Targaryen for a reward, maybe Walder Frey would be made the Lord Paramount of the Trident. The old weasel probably planned it that way.

To be fair, had he actually come on time then he probably would have been rewarded. He's just salty because his gambit didn't pay off.

If Walder Frey came early to the battlefield, odds are that the rebel and loyalist outriders would have picked up on his movement and that he would be told to hold the group while the other two armies arrived. If Frey did fight at the Trident then I would assume that the rebels would have scored and easier victory with fewer losses to their side and that Lord Frey would get more respect.

Provided that there would have been a battle there in that case.

Or if Frey was really early the Freys might have got the same thing that Forrester Frey got when he fought for Rhaenyra, as the Freys could have ended up facing Prince Rhaegar's entire army alone...
