Westeros
Via EW, HBO exec Casey Bloys provided some light at the end of the tunnel for eager Game of Thrones fans, indicating that the final season of the show will be airing in the first half of 2019. Given that in general the show has started airing in March or April, it seems odds are good for the final season to follow suit. Besides that, Bloys has also clarified earlier reports sourced from the Belfast Telegraph which indicated an October date for the production of Jane Goldman’s pilot for a Game of Thrones prequel/successor show. Bloys indicated that in fact a director has not yet been found (which may put paid to the idea that Goldman’s gotten Matthew Vaughn on board) and that in fact they’re hoping to get the pilot into production early next year. How this fits into the Telegraph’s report of trying to find a window to use the Paint Hall studio facilities is unclear. The Dragon Demands
It doesn't sound like anything particularly new was revealed. Asked about the prequels, he dispelled that they're filming Age of Heroes in October: no director or anything in place yet, filming would begin "early 2019" at the earliest. Asked if the other prequel pitches are "deceased or just on hold" he apparently gave the curt answer "a combination". ….which simply matches what GRRM already said: of the other four ideas, one was "shelved", but the other three were still in contention, and at least one of those three was doing well enough that GRRM seemed to believe HBO indicated it would probably also get a pilot episode order. So this changes nothing. Other than confirming that October 2018 for Goldman's project sounded kind of early. Said that Game of Thrones Season 8 would air "first half of 2019" but that can really mean anything from February to June if you think about it, so who knows. Simply ruling out the less probable chance of a fall release or something. …..funny, several reports indicate he was asked about "Confederate" but just said there was "no change" - no active work on it because anyone who potential could like D&D are currently busy on other projects. That isn't a denial, that isn't saying they dropped it. They learn nothing. I wonder what the exact transcript of the exchange was I'm hearing this second-hand. At this point I think all the prequels have been "pitched" in the script stage, said all they can say, and they might be wrangling around for what directors are available to such to see what gets greenlit. Or at least that's what he seems to be saying: "we need to find a director" etc.

So this changes nothing. Other than confirming that October 2018 for Goldman's project sounded kind of early. Reading between the lines with Bloys' comments, the other prequels will only be considered if Goldman's show fails: Quote “The reason we did multiple scripts, in the development process, [we knew] out of five we’d be lucky to get one we’re excited about,” he said. This fits with the comment about how the other treatments are between "dead" and "on hold"; they're dead unless Goldman's show is a bust (and at least one is dead regardless, apparently). ...Call me skeptical, but I'm wondering how terrible the other pitches must have been if Goldman's was the best of the bunch. Quote Said that Game of Thrones Season 8 would air "first half of 2019" but that can really mean anything from February to June if you think about it, so who knows. Simply ruling out the less probable chance of a fall release or something. S3 True Detective will be airing "early 2019" according to HBO, so with eight episodes per season, the earliest you're looking at is March 2019 for a premiere date. (The previous two seasons of True Detective were aired when GOT wasn't airing.) Season 1 of True Detective premiered on January 12, 2014, so assuming a similar timeline for Season 3, S3 will premiere on January 13th, 2019, and end on March 3rd, 2019. Also, three episodes of S8 have to air before May 31st to make the Emmy 2019 cutoff, so the show can't premiere any later than May 12th (or May 5th, if you assume that GOT will skip Memorial Day weekend). So your range is probably March 10th to May 12th for a premiere, with a finale airing between April 14th and June 16th (or June 23rd assuming no show on Memorial Day). We're probably looking at April 2019 for a premiere date, which makes a lot of sense since most of the previous seasons have premiered in April as well.
