I've been saying for well over a year now Trump will go nuclear on the Mueller investigation if and only if they go after his family.  After that I don't know happens, all hell breaks loose.

Yes.  Perhaps even more than his dumb sons, because Kushner is working in an official capacity.

I disagree on both points. I think Trump would nuke Mueller if he feels like he’s getting too close to some of his shady business practices. I do agree though that if he goes after his children, Trump will go nuclear.

Jared is expendable though. I think it’s one of the few honest things Rudy has said.

I agree and tend to identify the 94 elections as the point asymmetrical polarization began in earnest, but in actuality it's all arbitrary and a constant (d)evolution.  Rove was preceded by the Gingrich era, which was preceded by Lee Atwater, which was preceded by the Ford administration run by a couple young staffers named Rumsfeld and Cheney, which was preceded by Nixon and Haldeman, etcetera, etcetera.

Hmm, the Ford comment is interesting. I never associated him with the lurch to the crazy far right. I’ve always just gone with the narrative of the accidental president.

But Cruz is not backing down. In an interview with reporters at the conservative Resurgent Gathering in Austin on Saturday, Cruz cast himself as the righteous defender of the First Amendment and free speech — including “offensive speech, bad speech, stupid speech” — and bemoaned liberals and the media for not joining him in his principled defense of Jones. (It’s worth noting that the moderation policies of a  private corporation like Facebook are not a First Amendment issue.)

“As the poem goes, you know, first they came for Alex Jones. That does not end well,” Cruz said, referencing the famous Martin Niemöller poem about German cowardice in the face of ascendant Nazism. Apparently in this metaphor, Facebook is the Nazis and Jones is… the socialists?

Ted Cruz is radioactive human waste.

Ted Cruz is a fucking worm and I blast him when talking to conservatives every chance I get because everyone knows deep down that what I'm about to say is true.

Trump insulted Ted's wife and father in front of the entire country.  Ted even declared on multiple occasions Don's unfitness to be president.  But once 'ol Teddy saw which way the winds were blowing he was quick to put his nose right up Trump's ass.  This alone tells you all you need to know about this man's character.  I can assure you that if someone insulted my family in front of 320 million people, I would make sure that I was a thorn in that motherfuckers side every chance I got.  Cruz has absolutely no balls and is a complete disgrace to his country, his state, and his family.  Texas should be flat embarrassed to have a pathetic, unprincipled, dickless sycophant like Ted Cruz representing the state.

That said, he's gonna win in November.  Beto's got my vote, but there's not enough of me.

Perhaps that was true at one point, but I feel like I’ve read and seen a handful of stories laying out how he is privately pissed off at him, and if he thought sacrificing him would protect his kids, I think he would do it.

I know and entirely agree. Furthermore, if someone spoke about my wife that way in private, let alone in front of the entire country, I would punch him in the face, and in this case on live T.V., repercussions be damned. If I was running against Cruz, especially in Texas of all places, I would focus in on how he’s a weak, sniveling Canadian born Ivy League weasel and highlight that nothing in his blood or soul represents a strong Texan. Texas culture has to supersede the liberal-conservative divide.

I saw a poll the other day that had him at 48%, which means he’s in good shape, but not safe. He’ll probably survive this cycle, but I’m one of the Dems that thinks Texas will go purple in the not too distant future.

Trump is how he became mainstream.  The President of the US is a conspiracy theorist.  It's a big part of the damage that will outlast Trump.  His presidency has brought things that everyone used to laugh at into the mainstream and being in the mainstream alone lends it credibility.

I used to listen to Jones on (rare) occasions too and IIRC Jones wasn't as political back then as he has become.  Was all like chemtrails and aliens and illuminati kinda stuff.  I'm pretty sure that a lot of people weren't familiar with him from those days when he started creeping into the mainstream a bit with his political stuff.  It's the only explanation that makes any sense.

Completely agree, but I don't think Beto is going to do that.  I honestly haven't followed it too closely (as my vote is already decided) but my impression is that O'Rourke really wants to avoid going negative but I'm not sure that is the way to beat Cruz who has SO MANY negative things about him to attack.  Especially in Texas, as you say, where I really don't think your generic Texan would be inclined to vote for Cruz if someone would just loudly and plainly lay out how spineless he is.

Well far be it from me to contradict something you "feel like [you've] read."  :P

Trump probably is pissed at Kushner privately, but I don't think that changes anything in terms of Trump viewing any assault on Kushner as an assault on him personally.

He was becoming mainstream before Trump, though he dramatically sped it up. Glenn Beck played a large role in normalizing his ideas. That’s when I recall his naming being mentioned on T.V.

I recall him being pretty political, but as you said, in a bizarre way like saying aliens are running the government. It was funny when he didn’t matter. Now it’s scary.

I would go negative against Cruz, though in a mocking way. He’s such a ripe target, especially in your state.

“How can you vote for this man to stand up for Texas when he can’t even stand up for his wife.”

Perhaps, but how else will he make a move on his one true love? I think it’s pretty clear that Melania is done with him, given that she’d probably rather spend time with LeBron.

It's even worse. He tried to stand up to Trump to see if it made him popular. Then, when he saw it wasn't working he quickly flipped.

Rep. Chris Collins Arrested for Insider Trading

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/08/new-york-rep-chris-collins-arrested-securities-fraud.html

New York Rep. Chris Collins, one of Donald Trump’s earliest supporters in Congress, has been arrested on charges of insider trading, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

The charges stem from Collins’ place on the board of a small Australian biotech firm called Innate Immunotherapeutics. The indictment obtained from a federal grand jury alleges that Collins passed informationnot available to the public about the company’s drug trial results to his son, Cameron, to tip him and others off to “timely trades” in the company’s stock.
