Watch, Watched, Watching: That last thread... forget about it completely. It doesn't matter.

Yep. Very dark show but am so intrigued and loving it.

Best thing on TV at moment. Better call Saul is close but has the benefit of multiple seasons which comes at the mild expense of not being condensed excellence. But it's a short Vs lingform storytelling thing. I'm not sure sharp objects could sustain itself over 20+ episodes.

No I don’t think so either - it’s the perfect candidate for tv replacing some film adaptations but in the form of short limited series.

How does Sharp Objects compare to Flynn's other adaptations?  I really enjoyed Dark Places, but did not like Gone Girl at all.

Well I liked Gone Girl so not sure how useful my opinion will be. But I feel it's very faithful, and captures the atmosphere and feel of the book perfectly. It fleshed out some parts of the book but doesn't really change anything that I can immediately think of, except ageing up Camille (though Adora is aged up accordingly too). If you've seen Big Little Lies, it's by the same director as that, and there are definitely stylistic similarities between the two.

The only Flynn book I read was Dark Places and I thought the adaptation was just ok. Love Gone Girl and Sharp Objects though, and I wish I knew Sharp Objects was based on a book as I would’ve read it beforehand.

I’m actually kind of excited for the new season of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. It’s probably a mistake but the announcement of the original cast returning gives me a tiny bit of hope that it will be decent. I haven’t watched a full season since Coven, which I actually liked.

That sounds good.  I'm still not sure it's worth signing up for HBO just to binge that.  I might end up waiting until the next season of GoT.  Although I still need to watch the latest seasons of Silicon Valley and Westworld...

I’m exactly the same - haven’t watched a full one since Coven (except for a few episodes or hotel and most of Roanoke before I just gave up) and I LOVED Coven. And I’m actually feeling kinda excited despite myself

I wonder if a lot of people had this reaction, I also stopped watching at "Hotel' too much torture porn and watched couple of Roanoke, bt didn't really like it.

Roanoke was boring crap - you didn’t miss much and Hotel just killed it with that drill scene...so horrible I couldn’t stomach any more after that really. It was unsettling but not in a good way. Which is a shame because the music was SO. GOOD. All my favourites - 80s post punk and goth stuff but it didn’t make up for that horrible scene. I never watched any of Freakshow. I didn’t watch any of Cult. But I’m excited for Apocalypse and like you say I wonder how many are the same - I’m assuming quite a lot!

I loved seasons 1-3 and have such an indifference to dislike for the rest that I sometimes forget just how much I did love them. So the trailer for Apclypse really reminded me.

The Affair season 4 episode 9 just emotionally destroyed me.

I might just wait and do 9 and 10 in one go. I binged 4-8 a week ago and was crushed that 9 wasn't available yet.

10 is available now I think! I haven’t brought myself to watch it yet. 8 hurt me but 9 was just...something else :(

I watched the first like 4 episodes of Freakshow and hated it. An ex liked Hotel so I caught some of that one and didn’t like it at all. At this point I’ll just take a watchable season.

Watched Jacob’s Ladder for the first time tonight and...JFC that’s one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. Right up there with Requiem For a Dream.

Yeah, that movie is one that stick with you. I think it is a great movie but I tend to not recommend it as I don't want to be blamed for the nightmares that follow.
