Dark Sister

Well, he only confirmed that Bloodraven took Dark Sister to the Wall, which was obvious before. We still do not know where Dark Sister is at the moment. It could still be at the Wall, it could be back at King's Landing or Dragonstone and he could've brought it with him beyond the Wall, which everyone always assumed and is most likely.

It’s either hidden at the Wall or he has it with him. No chance it’s in KL or Dragonstone.

Does this mean we got some good quality geeking coming down the line some time soon? :D

Well, fifty years is a long time (since he 'disappeared' in 252AC), a lot might happen to a sword at the Wall in that time. Or if he took it ranging with him, he still might have lost it along the way. We still don't know how he ended up stuck in a tree, yet. There's still everything to play for, I think, in the field of Darksister tinfoil...

Hahaaa  for sure. My down won’t happen for a while, so break out the orange juice and keep up

One of my first thoughts is how this adds credence to Brynden Rivers maintaining a more honorable position as he is escorted north and allowed not just his personal retinue of Teeth, but also a sword such as this.

Apparently all of the notes from this poster were added to the SSM resources if anyone wants to read all of the details here. I see Angel Eyes added a link to the tweet above as well.

If he took it beyond the Wall then it has to be in the cave with him. I imagine Blackfyre and Dark Sister will resurface around the same time in the story if anything.

It bothers me, though. Blackfyre is somewhere in Essos, Aegon the Conqueror's crown was lost on the Prince's Pass, Dark Sister is literally the last family heirloom that's left to House Targaryen and they let it go to the Wall? Was it supposed to return to King's Landing after Bloodraven's death, or something?

Is there a video or a recording of that event?

Not as of yet, but the organizers regularly post audio of events they've had, so I am hopeful there'll be a good-quality audio, and perhaps video as well. We'll post about it when we know.

This is more than odd indeed, given that the family Valyrian blades are supposed to stay with the family. Could it be that BR had some inkling that the Others were stirring and somehow convinced Egg that the blade would be needed at the Wall? Could he even have thought himself to be the Promised Prince, at some point? I mean, due to the Unworthy's death-bed legitimisation he was technically a prince and his origins could even be construed to be connected to "Ice and Fire" given the northern origins of the Blackwoods.

I also thought after ADwD that Meera would be sent back to the Wall with a message from him and now it seems that the Dark Sister could serve as proof of his identity and therefore authenticity of his message to NW and the North.

What I also find very interesting is GRRM saying that he "didn't think" that Bittersteel had any children. This is pretty major.

If that's true, then Egg was a moron - unless they got Blackfyre back from Haegon. Then Dark Sister was just the other sword.

Not sure what's the point of that, though, Longclaw is Longclaw and Jon doesn't need two Valyrian steel swords.

The sadder piece seems to be that Bittersteel had no children. Another stillborn cadet branch, and such a promising one at that, considering the implications of Calla Blackfyre and Brynden Rivers possibly marrying...

What has Illyrio done to not get this most prestigious of ancestries ;-)?

Certainly adds a lot of credence to the theory that Egg and BR might have had more mystical reasons for sending the most talented spymaster in the realm to the Wall, as opposed to just "Lord Rivers killed a Blackfyre pretender".

A Valyrian steel blade and a personal retinue of archers don't really sound like much of a punishment, do they?

Longclaw always felt wrong for Jon. It has no symbolism, it is the Mormont’s sword, the Mormonts are nothing special and Jon reworking the Bear pommel into a Wolf felt weird. I figure Jorah gets the sword back and Jon gets Dark Sister.

The bastard sword was for Jon the bastard but Dark Sister will be for Jon the King.

Yes, this was interesting. I think a lot of thought that Young Griff could have been a descendant of Bittersteel and Calla, so that sort of nips the speculation in the bud.

I really don't get this, personally. Plus Bloodraven was an expert bowman and preferred it, as far as we are told. He had a whole company of archers under his command.

As far as Jon goes with Longclaw, I think Jon will eventually return it to Jorah. I don't see him wanting to keep it.
