Abbreviations Commonly used in A Forum Of Ice And Fire

After a hiatus on my part I can no longer locate the abbreviations thread on this forum. However, I kept a copy in my files so I'll post it here in forum games.

abbreviations list as of Sept. 6, 2014

 

·  3EC = Three-Eyed Crow

·  7K = Seven Kingdoms

·  AA = Azor Ahai

·  AAA!BBB = same thing as AAA-BBB; that is, the exclamation point here stands in for a hyphen (no idea why); for example, “show!Arya” really means “show-Arya” or “the show’s Arya”.

·  AAR = Azor Ahai Reborn

·  ACOK = A Clash of Kings; second novel in the series

·  ADOS = A Dream of Spring; seventh and expected final novel in the series (unpublished as of this writing in April 2012)

·  AD = Ashara Dayne OR Arthur Dayne

·  ADWD = A Dance with Dragons; fifth novel in the series

·  AFAIK = as far as I know

·  AFAIR = as far as I recall/remember

·  AFFC = A Feast for Crows; fourth novel in the series

·  AGOT = A Game Of Thrones; first novel in the series

·  A+J=J+C = the hypothesis that Aerys and Joanna are Jaime and Cersei’s parents

·  A+J=T = the hypothesis that Aerys and Joanna are Tyrion’s parents

·  AKA = also known as

·  AOTK = Arms of the Kraken

·  ASAP = as soon as possible

·  ASOIAF = A Song of Ice and Fire; the name of the whole legendarium / saga / universe

·  ASOS = A Storm of Swords; third novel in the series

·  (f)Aegon = the Aegon with Jon Connington is an imposter - not the true born son of Rhaegar & Elia

·  (f)Arya= Jeyne Poole faking Arya

·  B=AA (Brienne is Azor Ahai)

·  B+A=J = the hypothesis that Brandon Stark and Ashara Dayne are Jon’s parents

·  BB = Brazen Beasts

·  BC = Brave Companions (aka Bloody Mummers)

·  BD = Beric Dondarion

·  BF = usually Brynden “Blackfish” Tully; sometimes Blackfyre

·  BKA = better known as

·  BM = Bloody Mummers (aka Brave Companions)

·  BotBW (or BBW) = Battle of the Blackwater

·  BOTD = Blood of the Dragon

·  BPR = bitter, petty, and resentful

·  BR = Bloodraven (also the initials of his real name, Brynden Rivers)

·  BtB = Bran the Builder

·  BTW = by the way

·  BWB = Brotherhood Without Banners

·  BWOB = Brotherhood Without Banners

·  CB = Castle Black

·  CH = Coldhands

·  COK = A Clash of Kings; second novel in the series

·  COTF = Children of the Forest

·  CPJT = crackpot joke theory

·  CR: Casterly Rock

·  CRTS = Characters Representing The Seven

·  Clash = A Clash of Kings; second novel in the series

·  D=B+A = the hyphothesis that Brandon Stark and Ashara Dayne are the parents of Darkstar, Ser Gerold Dayne

·  D&D = David Benioff and Dan Weiss, creators of the HBO series (in the context of the forums; however in popular culture, D&D usually refers to the Dungeons and Dragons fantasy rôle-playing game created by Gary Gygax)

·  D&E = Dunk and Egg

·  DIY = do it yourself

·  DOS = A Dream of Spring; seventh and expected final novel in the series (unpublished as of this writing in April 2012)

·  DotD: Dance of the Dragons

·  DotD2: Second Dance of the Dragons

·  DS = Dark Star, Gerold Dayne

·  DS = Dark Sister

·  DWD = A Dance with Dragons; fifth novel in the series

·  Dance = A Dance with Dragons; fifth novel in the series

·  ETA = edited to add (in the context of forums; however, in real life usually refers to Estimated Time of Arrival)

·  FTR = for the record

·  FTW = for the win

·  FUCK = for unlawful carnal knowledge (I include this because it's a favorite ASOIAF word. This version of fuck as an acronym was commonly heard on college campuses in the 60's and 70's.)

·  FW = Faceless Woman

·  FWIW = for what it’s worth

·  FYI = for your information

·  Feast = A Feast For Crows; fourth novel in the series

·  Franken[character’s name] = see Un[character’s name]

·  Frey Pies = theory that Wyman Manderly had 3 Freys killed (Rhaegar, Symond, and Jared) who had disappeared on the way from White Harbor to WF.  And he had them baked into three huge meat pies he brought for Ramsay Bolton's wedding. He personally served the pies to the Boltons and Freys, so they could not refuse.

·  Game = A Game of Thrones; first novel in the series

·  GC = Golden Company

·  GG = The Green Grace

·  GI,GO = garbage in, garbage out

·  GM = Grand Maester, or Great Masters (of Meereen) or Good Masters (of Astapor) or Green Men [all depending on the context they are mentioned in I guess.]

·  GOHH = the Ghost of High Heart

·  GOT = Game of Thrones; name of the television serial adapted from the books

·  GRRM = George R.R. Martin; author of A Song of Ice and Fire

·  GW = Grey Wind, Robb’s direwolf

·  HBO = Home Box Office; name of the television network/channel that produced the TV series

·  HG = Highgarden

·  HM = Hooded Man

·  HM=C (Hooded man is Septon Chayle)

·  HM=T (Hooded Man is Theon)

·  HOBAW = House of Black and White

·  HOTU = House of the Undying

·  HR = Howland Reed

·  HS = High Septon (or High Sparrow)

·  HtH = Harry the Heir

·  IB = the ironborn

·  IBB = the Iron Bank of Bravos

·  IDHTBIFOM - I don't have the book in front of me

·  IIRC = if I recall correctly

·  IMHO = in my humble opinion

·  IM!HO = in my unhumble opinion

·  IMO = in my opinion

·  IOF = Isle of Faces

·  Jojen paste = theory that the weirdwood paste (http://awoiaf.wester.../Weirwood_paste) fed to Bran by Leaf of the children of the forest is made up in part of Jojen.

·  OP = original posting/poster

·  OT = off topic

·  OTOH = on the other hand
