Vaedys Targaryen Posted August 24, 2018 Share Posted August 24, 2018 It is very often assumed that Daenerys will have a huge Dothraki army, but I have noticed that not many people seem to have truly considered a very big flaw in that theory: Her dragons will frighten the horses. Historically, war horses proved to be not very effective around war elephants because the horses would be terrified of the elephants, rendering them not very useful against the elephants or with the elephants. Now imagine the horses are going against giant flying, firebreathing and roaring beasts. That would not work. It probably wouldn't work either if said horses were on the dragons' side. If GRRM has included this huge detail into the story, the Dothraki won't be an effective army for Daenerys, as almost all of their fighting involves being on horseback, but the dragons will render the horses completely useless in battle. The Dothraki horses will become accustomed to the dragons, probably from Drogon's scent or whatever, from Dany spending time with the Dothraki. Dothraki horses won't be affected much by the dragons. We don't know for certain that they will, but it's plausible. We should note that Dothraki and their horses have been around Dany's dragons for some time, and this hasn't been a serious issue. I agree with this assement, and Danny should make sure she takes the proper time and training for her calvary so that her armys horses are not effected at all. Universal Sword Donor Posted August 24, 2018 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Her biggest impediment to using the dothraki army is getting the ships (maybe the volantene fleet), getting them on the ships, and then sailing them the thousands of miles back to Westeros without them all dying. I would be very surprised if the Dothraki rode a ship farther than it would take them to get from, say, Pentos to Dragonstone or somewhere similar.
