Wage gains would still need to accelerate further to get to the kinds of levels that are historically normal; in 2008, for example, the year the recession began, average hourly earnings rose 3.6 percent. But the fact that higher pay raises are finally showing up in the data is another piece of evidence that employers are coming up against the limits of the labor force. Just maybe, after years of trying every recruitment technique other than raising hourly pay, employers are starting to turn more to that option. In other words, the labor market could finally be so tight that employers just don’t have a choice if they want to attract and retain workers.... I can just see the next Republican convention: Okay, guys, no more fuckin' around. This time were going to get real conservative. And were not kiddin. Were going to get serious this time. And we mean it. I can perhaps be a bit forgiving when somebody plays with matches and and can of jet fuel and burns their fingers in the process and burns of everyone else. It's a bit harder to be forgiving, when they don't learn their lesson. Conservatives who try to start up with this garbage need to be taken out to the woodshed. Yglesias is right. While the last two Democratic Presidents weren't perfect,, they were basically decent and competent presidents, while the Republican Party has managed to give us two flaming disasters of presidents within a generation, and then when it becomes apparent they were disasters they do: 1. Its liberals fault for making us dumb! 2. Uh no, wait, it's Obama's fault 3. But, but, he didn't do the true conservatism (of course this always comes after conservatives ardently supported the person who allegedly didn't do the true conservatism).
