Mini Sith is going to get spoilt with lots of cute new things, I’m definately getting her this , how cute is it?!.

Aw that’s such a sweet little outfit. She’s a lucky baby.

Well color me impressed - Stanford?

I passed the majority of my classes doing pretty much exactly what you said. I won’t get into as to not offend anyone but yah, it was bad. I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but my university experience was a joke. I’m very happy to be out of CA. I couldn’t take it anymore.

I am indeed probably a fair bit older than most here.  But not yet 40, so there’s that.

Bought my little squish her first Halloween costume - actually I bought two - a pineapple or a unicorn. I’m thinking unicorn. Lil O wants to be some character from Five Nights at Freddy’s. I was hoping he’d want to be something we could sorta put together ourselves like Dr. Who - something we could work on together. Oh well. Are you guys dressing up this year?

More baby cuteness. The thread is too much today. :D I’d vote unicorn too, pineapple is a little summery and unicorns are timeless. And I’m too old to have heard about this thing little o wants to dress up from. Nah, we still don’t really have Halloween. At least not in the dressing up and trick or treating way. There are some dress-up parties around town for those who want to get drunk in a costume and there are random pumpkin decorations but Halloween isn’t huge here.

Halloween is not huge here either. Carnival (in February/March) is a lot more popular opportunity for dressing up. I have not participated in it since I was little, though. Never seem to have anybody to do it with, and doing it myself would probably just earn me ridicule from my family, who all think it pretty stupid.

What a gloomy cold day. It is way too cold and it is raining and what right does the autumn have to come? :tantrum:

Like Buckwheat said, same here, Halloween is only popular at clubs' parties and I've seen people dressing up there...... or some kids in the street, but this latter thing not much really.

There are other traditions on that day, but they are more related to certain types of food with the family.

Carnival is the popular one.

Cosplaying for anime purposes might count as my "Halloween" costume this Fall, though :P

Well we’re back and I might have gotten a little carried away with getting things for mini Sith, she has 5 new outfits, shoes and a new soft toy.

Also, my gran is awesome, what do you get two sleep deprived mothers?, a Spa weekend :D, and to look after mini Sith while we go, complete rest and relaxation and getting pampered, and hopefully it will be romantic too, so looking forward to it!.

Sorry! I forgot about that. :blushing:

That is why you speak Spanish. Check. I thought that you learned it as a foreign language.

Yeah, I'm native in Catalan and Spanish. Might I ask, are you from Slovenia or Slovakia? I don't remember exactly,  and from what you said the other day I faintly remember my google translate saying "slovene" but I don't trust that tool much.

Are you from Barcelona?, everyone always talks about how great it is, but when I went I felt really underwhelmed, but it was in winter which I suppose didn’t help, I saw the Ramblas and I went to the port bit with the restaurants, did I miss out on some better bits?.

I also have been to Madrid which I loved.

Yeah. Mmh well there are many things to do there. I for one don't like Las Ramblas, since now it's overcrowded and due to that don't have the charm of the past, when they used to be a place to walk calmly with lots of flower stands. Not to mention that the restaurants there are "touristic", with bad food where locals would never go and their prices are exorbitant. I'd not recommend going to the restaurants there for instance. Instead going to places recommended by locals, or anywhere else but there.

I don't think winter is a problem. Might I ask, did you go on a cruise?

Actually, yes,  Barcelona has lots of things to visit, it depends on what you like doing.  There are dozens of museums, historical sites such as the gothic cathedrals: Cathedral of Barcelona, the Cathedral of the Sea. The archaeological site of the 1714's siege of Barcelona, and the streets and other buildings of the Gothic Quarter. The other picturesque quarters nearby such as Born and La Ribera.

There are modernist buildings, like the ones from Gaudí, such as Pedrera, Casa Batlló in the Eixample district of the center, where you can also find other type of architectural styles, etc.

There is Sagrada Família, still under construction, but very advanced and it can be visited indoors. Near there there is the historical site of Saint Pau Hospital, which is also of modernist style from the early 20th century, with its pavilions.

It's difficult to find, but there are places in which you can visit small rests of the Roman Wall and rests of a building from old Barcino. There are rests (larger) of the Medieval one as well.

If you like the mountain, there are two small ones ideal for walks, easily accessible from the center. Montjuïc's with its castle, a fortress from the 17th century. Near there there are the Montjuïc Fountains and the MNAC museum in the National Palace from the World Exhibition in the twenties. There is also the mountain of Tibidabo, with a vintage amusement park and good views of the city and the Sacred Heart Church at the top of the Hill.

On another area, there are also good views from the Park Güell, a modernist park from Gaudí as well.

There is the Ciutadella Park, kind of vintage park from the 19th century. Similar to Madrid's El Retiro but smaller.

I might forget many other things, basically each neighborhood has also something to offer, since many of them used to be towns 100 years ago.

There are beaches, but if you really like that, I'd go to Costa Brava, North-East of Catalonia, not far from Barcelona. Those beaches are similar to the ones of South France and North Italy. Well,it's a Mediterranean continuum, after all.  With cliffs and inlets and these things. Small fisherman's towns.

Catalonia has also a curious mountain, Montserrat, with its Abbey. North, there are the Pyrinees, they are not the Alps, hehe, but it's not that far from Barcelona if you like the mountains or the small Pyrenean towns from there.

I've not visited much Spain, but I also went to Madrid and I liked it. It's just different from Barcelona.

Oh, thanks. And sorry for not remembering well...

I've never been there, but a friend did not long ago and really liked it. I'd love to see Eastern Europe.

Oh, it is not the not remembering well that makes a Slovene person angry. It is the not knowing the difference between Slovenia and Slovakia. :P

(I was not really angry.)

No I didn’t go on a cruise I just went there for a long weekend, some of those things sound really interesting I might have to go again, although it’s much harder to plan things after having a baby!.

Yeah, sorry again.... and thanks for not being that angry.  But.....It's my fault,  really, I apologize.

I know the difference between the countries (Eurofan pride here :P ), although, unfortunately, since I've not visited any of the two countries yet, I don't know much of any of them, even if I'd love to.  My friend went to Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and was delighted by their natural landscapes and all that greenery.

The thing is more related to my inability to retain words in languages that I don't know....

I am ashamed to say this, but I'll try to explain myself. I messed it up completely. Before writing the comment I remembered the post in Slovene (though didn't check it again) and that the language in Slovene was called "sloven."+"something".  I'm not accustomed to the type of accents in Slavic languages and thus, I didn't remember how it ended, just that there were some accents that I didn't understand and, consequently, I forgot the "something" part.

I was almost sure it was Slovene (and that google had said that) but I also remembered reading a word similar to "Slovak" there in another post......Since I had my doubts, before messing it up, and....instead of checking it up again on that page..... I quickly checked up the name of Slovak in Slovak and it turned out to be that it was "sloven."+"something". As a person who has zero knowledge of Slavic languages,  then I asked you, instead of doing what I should have done, checking the page again.

......And now I did....the word that was "similar" to Slovak was "slovenska", from rocksniffer's post. Which shows how ignorant I am, I thought they were "similar" due to the "k" or at least that was my mind had kept subconsciously for some reason I ignore...

So now, mental note for me:

Slovene language: slovenščino

Slovak language: slovenský

As a person who loves languages, and the beautiful differences between them that makes each of them unique....this has been deeply shameful....

but I had to write it. Sorry all of you guys, for derailing the thread.

You couldn’t be more on point. I was at a wedding yesterday, where during her speech about the couple, the official said the groom had, after many happy adventures together, decided to make a life changing decision and proposed in Slovakia. Ding ding ding ding ding. (It was in fact in Slovenia, they never go skiing to Slovakia)

and  now I’m waiting for the other to get up too so we can all go back to civilization, cleanliness and privacy.  Though the decaying smell of fish, water and socialism is almost as good as working 3G.

Well it was a most memorable wedding freezing on a lakeside in huge sweaters and coats and jackets when it was 30C yesterday. Weather has a funny sense of humor.

This sounds lovely, have a great time and get all the rest and relaxation you can, you sure deserve it!

ETA: and I managed to send this on the first try! The reception impresses me today.

I will, it was such a lovely surprise, we could have gotten one ourselves but it was so sweet and touching that she found one for us and offered to look after mini Sith for the weekend too.

I also think she just likes using her iPad which I got her for Christmas- she’s surprisingly capable with technology for an 80 year old!.

You are waaaaay overthinking this. Nobody is angry at you, really. ;)

And I realise the words seem very similar to somebody who does not know any of these countries or languages. We literally use the words "slovenski" and "slovensky" as adjectives for our respective countries, and mean different things. It is just annoying for us who have to live it sometimes. :P Also, the ... what country are you from? Oooooh, you were once a part of Russia? *grinds teeth*

Oooooh, a wedding! I only remember being at a wedding once or twice, for my mother's cousins, when I was still little. I would love to go to a wedding of somebody whom I actually know and care about, and have fun. But none of my friends are getting married.
