Ummm...

You did finish ADWD, right?

I sure did.  Bowen did the right thing because Jon had to be stopped from carrying out his attack on Ramsay.   It was madness to push his nose between his sister and Ramsay.  That was none of his business.  It was even more idiotic to start his own army of wildlings for the purposes of attacking winterfell and the Boltons.  All of those activities are inappropriate for a sworn brother of the night's watch to be engaging in.

"Where in our words does it say we have to keep back the wildlings? It says that we protect the lands of men, does it not? Then what are these wildlings, if not men?": paraphrased from ADWD.

Of course it is true that attacking Ramsay was the wrong thing to do according to the traditions of the Watch. The best thing for the Watch? Absolutely not.

Stannis and Ned were about the only non-crows in the series that seemed to care about the danger from the White Walkers. If Stannis loses the war, who is there?

Boltons/Freys: Couldn't care less about the common folk. They won't bother to help until the wights are knocking at their doors.

Lannisters: Currently a falling star, and anyway Cersei's a psychopath that is too preoccupied with her own problems to do anything.

Greyjoys: Focused on the south, not the North. Euron and Victarion both hope to marry Danaerys and take over swatches of Essos. Besides, wights can't swim (AFAIK).

Northern Conspiracy (Frey Pies): Doomed to failure if Night's Watch doesn't help them out.

Danaerys: Will take too long to get there, and isn't likely to get anywhere near the North before the Long Night falls.

Stannis is really the Night's Watch's, and by extension Westeros', only hope for survival against the White Walkers.

Correct.  I agree.
