Why did Jorah push Dany to go to Asshai?

Things were looking badly for them at the time.  Khal Drogo expired and the Dothraki wanted to take Daenerys Targaryen to Vaes Dothrak, per their custom.  That would take away all of her chances to take back her lands from the usurper.  It would also take her away from him forever.

Selling those eggs and going far to escape the Dosh Khaleen was actually not a bad option.  Those eggs were worth a fortune.  They could live like royalty for the rest of their lives.  I assume here that Jorah intended to marry Daenerys.  Jorah basically gets everything he wants.  The girl and a kingly lifestyle.

It's on the very edge of civilization where the Dothraki might not trouble to find them.  It's also a place where somebody will pay top gold for the dragon eggs.  Magic users who are into dragon lore will surely want those eggs and Asshai has plenty of riches.

Did GRRM ever talk about that in a SSM?

Did he think about bringing Dany there in the beginning?

So he can have her all to himself.  The Free Cities is out of the question because they will turn her over to the Dothraki.  They crap their pants in fear of the Dothraki.  The money they can get from the dragon eggs is enough to give them the good life.  It's a matter of running from the bloodriders whom were responsible for escorting her to Vaes Dothrak.

I don't think he thought about this until the last minute.  Dany has a great destiny ahead of her.  She was supposed to birth the khal of khals and unite all of the khalasars into one people.

Because he has secrets he wants to hide, and he knows that the truth lies in Westeros.

He had secrets.  Like he was spying on the Targaryens.  He was too ashamed to let Dany find out.

Jorah was looking for a comfortable lifestyle and you need a city for that.  Better if that city is as far away from Westeros as possible.

I don't think Asshai is a happy place.  They have their resident nutters and the air is unhealthy.  Think about a place where it's always halloween but without the candy.  It's all tricks and no treats.  But can you really blame Jorah?  They're wanted by the biggest cavalry in the east.  The Baratheons would surely like to get their hands on the Targaryen princess because she is a threat to their rule.  You can't stay and you can't go back home.

Jorah would probably have went anywhere if it meant Dany would follow him and it was just the two of them. He wanted to go on a wine tasting tour with 14 year old Dany while she was in a very vulnerable state after having just lost her husband and child, so he could move in on her.

Come east with me, Yi Ti, Qarth, the Jade Sea, Asshai by the Shawdow. We will see all the wonders yet unseen, and drink what wines the gods see fit to serve us.

She puts her trust in him time and again and he wants to get her drunk and alone with him. Granted, he does help her along the way but that's what knights are supposed to do when they swear themselves to someone. He has no right to presume he can kiss her without her permission or get jealous when she talks to other men.  Plus there is the whole thing of him being a spy, who knows why he want her in Asshai, maybe he knows some wizard that will put a spell on Dany for him.

This.

What Dany actually ended up doing was suicide in contrast. But hey, it paid off. And thank f*** it did! I don't think it would have worked out in the long-term.

George Martin himself took the path of risk in his own career.  It paid off.  He's the most successful author today.  You can't have the rewards without the risks.  Dany stepped into that fire and brought her dragons to life.  Fortune should favor the bold and the deserving.  She is that.
