Viserys does not go east

Recommended Posts

If Viserys had not wedded Daenerys to Drogo(Scenario 1), or just not went east with Drogo and Daenerys how may he impact Westerosi politics(Scenario 2)?

He would soon end up dead. His health situation was getting worse and worse than while he was child and Illyrio wasn't interested in anything that would threaten Aegon's situation.

Illyrio wedded Dany to Drogo. He convinced Viserys that was the only way to get an army.

Scenario 2  is more unclear. Viserys of course would not have gotten himself killed, but was his death necessary to bring the dragons back? Otherwise, things would have happened as OTL (Drogo dies, the khalasar disbands, Dany dragons are born in the Red Waste, etc) and Viserys would have never got his Dothraki army, but Illyrio would have kept him anyway as he is important in his plans regarding Aegon, maybe he would have convinced to hire some sellswords (and pay for them) to take the IT while TWO5K chaos ensued?

I am of the opinion that his death was a necessary sacrifice for hatching the dragon eggs and the ascension of Princess Daenerys into the young woman that she has become.  Daenerys is the daughter of death.  The death of her parents and brothers helped her become the strong leader that she is now.

Had he lived, Viserys would have taken back the iron throne with the help of Khal Drogo.  How long his reign would last is another matter.  If he starts to go erratic, I believe Daenerys would pull a combination of Jaime and Bowen to take him down.  Jaime assassinated Aerys to protect the lives of the citizens of King's Landing.  Bowen Marsh executed Jon Snow to stop him from doing further harm to the Watch and to Westeros.

I don't usually play with the hypothetical questions, but this one is especially useful because it was apparently Illyrio's plan for Viserys to remain his guest in Pentos. I would submit that Viserys was to remain in Pentos banging Lysene bed slaves and drinking Arbor gold. When the time was right Viserys would have woken with a horse's severed head in his bed, and Strong Belwas would have made him an offer he couldn't refuse: to sleep with the fishes at the bottom of the Bay of Pentos, or to recognize Aegon as Rhaegar's son and heir, giving Aegon unquestioned legitimacy. In return Viserys would have been wed to Arianne, becoming the Prince of Dorne and cementing the alliance with Dorne. Thus, Viserys would have joined the Golden Company with with fifty thousand Dothraki screamers at his back. But Viserys died in the Dothraki Sea, and Illyrio wept when he heard the news.

something would have happened to send him to Vaes Dothrak so he could get killed by drogo. That is how the story was written

Had Viserys stayed in Pentos, he probably would've ended up with the Golden Company in (f)Aegon's place. Unlike Aegon, there's no question about the legitimacy of his birth or claim. Illyrio was always planning a Targaryen restoration with Aegon, but once Viserys and Dany came into his hands, they became more important pieces. Once Viserys got himself killed and Dany went off to Mereen never to be seen again, he brought out Aegon again.

We actually have no idea who came up with the Dothraki idea and how. It doesn't seem likely that this was Viserys' idea, but who knows at this point? What's clear is that Drogo made a deal/exchanged gifts with Viserys III, not Illyrio Mopatis (at least not in relation to the subsequent invasion of Westeros). If Viserys III and/or Dany may have died Illyrio would have had no way to make Drogo to fulfill his promise to provide him with 10,000 or so screamers to invade Westeros on behalf of Aegon.

Why did Viserys accompany the Dothraki eastward? They only respect strength, strength he does not have.

Scenario 1 would probably end very badly for Daenerys, she'd grow into an adult and Viserys would keep beating her and probably start raping her and eventually beat her to death. She was always the outlet for all his rage and if there was no one there to stop him...

Scenario 2 would probably end badly for Viserys. If Drogo was convinced to cross the Narrow Sea similarly to canon he'd take the Iron Throne for himself, Daenerys and their son.  Drogo and Dany and the Dothraki horde would be the conquers with Viserys doing little more than he did in canon, following around Drogo while Jorah watched him. If Dany ended up giving Drogo a few strong sons she would probably be able to convince Drogo to give Viserys Storm's End or something and Viserys would whine and confront Drogo and probably get beaten to death.

Viserys landing on Dorne with the Golden Company during the war of the 5 kings would be very interesting scenario.

Didn’t he try to get them, only to be laughed off?

Scenario 2: I thought Drogo was content to wait around in the Dothraki Sea until Daenerys was almost killed. Though how much can 10,000 Dothraki do? Drogo only agreed to that many. Plus, how well can a Dothraki fight when he’s puking his guts out as he makes land?  D-Day, anyone?

Yes. I just think that Viserys or Aegon VI landing during the war of the 5 kings, would make things even more interesting.
