This was a worryingly weak year for movies.

Most of the best films of the year were foreign-language films. Though there's no good excuse for why First Reformed was not represented at the Globes.

The backstage press interviews/questions are pretty fun to watch. Highlights;

Olivia Colman seamlessly using the term plinky plonk (tv remote) in her response

Olivia Colman’s reaction to being called an older actress, and subsequent amazement at the journalists age (51)

Lady Gaga steering the press to ask questions about the actual award she was carrying rather than the irrelevant questions they wanted to ask

I hope Where the Lost Things Go wins best original song. A mediocre film with ear-wormy, catchy but largely forgettable songs but that one really was great and brought a tear to my eye

This has potential to be an interesting night...I don’t think there are any clear Favourites (budum-tch heh) for most categories (few seem pretty locked now though...Spidey verse for animated, Roma for foreign language etc)

No surprises there. Hope Favourite wins a bunch.

Interesting to see a few Netflix movies in there.. will they win anything?

Without treading over old ground.. Black Panther has no right being on the same page as the words 'best picture'.

Yep. It's embarrassing.

Yes and yes. But then again, looking at that list makes me realize how bad 2018 was for "good" movies. Bohemian Rhapsody is also completely mediocre

I would put First Man and The Favourite, as my picks for the year, but even then I don't think they are any more than 'good' movies. This might be part of a longer term trend of there simply not being a huge number of quality movies being made each year. Maybe it's all moving towards TV and longer form story telling.
