This article in Hollywood Reporter kills me.  It mentions that D&D were hired for their ability at world creating??  WTF??  Hahahahaha, all they ever did good was hiring and staffing.  Can you imagine the show without the cast and crew that did all the work?  HA World building?? PULEEZE  They scammed and conned a world out of GRRM.  World building.  HA

And the hiring and staffing was because it was HBO and their buckets of $$$. World building was of course GRRM, and they couldn't even manage to use that gift properly.

There is so much industry double talk in these articles and statements.

so they can t be very good bosses,

If the trend against them continues, I wouldn't be surprised if the stunt men, assistants, technicians, etc.  start to tell terrible things about their incompetence… Incompetence = danger when you work with weapons, horses, fire, boats, etc.

They said why, they wanted to downplay the fantasy so that the show would appeal to footballers and mums or something? I think they not only never really understood anything but the struggle for power, but even worse, never cared for anything else. But having a main character be brought back from death was oh so kewl. So they came up with yet another “plotzee” fiasco and sort of gave that plot to Jon. And that’s why the whole resurrection of a main character felt so stupid and empty and pointless, they didn’t know what to do w/ it, they only knew they wanted to film it. That’s why that went nowhere.

”Oh you died and came back. Tell us about it”.

“Nothing to tell”.

The fact is that it wasn't even good as a struggle for power.

Even leaving aside the fantasy elements, a struggle for power between Daenerys, and the Starks, for the rule of the North, could have been made riveting, with Jon being torn both ways.  Ditto, Daenerys and Jon being pulled apart by his parentage, as he gets forced by others into making a bid for the Iron Throne.  And, it could have been done without vilifying either side.

Its truly incredible that the show, being run by these two, was ever good, at all.  But, I can only say, they are who I thought they were, and a big  'I told you so' to all their apologists who for so many years continued to make excuses for their terrible plotting and the rest of their BS.

No, it wasn’t. At all.

You’ll get no arguments from me. I will say, though, that that would have required proper writers and slightly less self-involved people at the helm.

Good grief, was the writer of that article deliberately being ironic?

I mean, there are maybe some things D+D could be given credit for in the success of Game of Thrones, but world-building is clearly the thing that they were 100% incapable of and 100% dependent on GRRM for.

IKR?  Either the writer had no idea on the subject matter at hand, at all, or they were going for irony.  That really threw me at end.  I'm still shaking my head, trying to clear it from the crazy of that comment.

Oh, thank you.  I may take a peek, errrrrrrrrrrr listen, to a bit of it.  Just to get a feel of it, the tone.  I highly suspect their tone, especially Benioff's, will only make it seem worse, LOL

Agree. That’s what I want to check is the tone of the whole event and those there.

I have to plead guilty.  I had long accepted that the show was inferior to the books, but I still thought that they'd produce something special for Season 8.

You know what they say, hope springs eternal.  I didn't think they were capable of anything 'special' without the books, I realized that they had no ability or interest in things hanging together back in season 5, but I didn't expect season 8 to be as completely stupid as it was, just totally completely stupid wrapped up in a nice package of good directing and great effects, when  you could see them, that is.

I'd previously wondered how nothing sketchy had happened on set. If they were callous enough to endanger a baby's health for penis shots and worked the crew mercilessly for, how long was it?, to give us 'The Short Night' TM, if nothing went horribly wrong it really must be over the professionalism and skill of the other people involved.

Yes, I should have realised Linda Antonsson was right when she said "the show began to die" with Dany's storyline in Qarth.

The cock jokes, the eunuch jokes, the rapes, the torture porn, the "bad pussy" , the actions that stopped having consequences, the military tactics that stopped making sense, the plotlines that went nowhere, the plotlines that were introduced for no good reason, the prioritisation of surprise over good story telling, the teleporting armies, the wight hunt, Porne.  I feel like a fool for recommending this mess to people.

Well, the first 4 seasons were excellent, even despite the various red flags.  It didn't really go totally off the rails until season 7, although I can't remember much of season 6, so it could have been that year.  Even season 5, as bad as it was still had some excellent dialogue and interactions.  By season 7, they'd gone full Norma Desmond, why write when we can do closeups and then pan backwards.
