Angel Eyes
In Season 3, Theon is strapped to a large X, a flaying cross. Then the janitor (Ramsay) tells him to ride eastward to Deepwood Motte. Then while he’s on the cross again, he’s asked about where he is, and then gets his finger flayed. Was Theon ever taught geography or Houses of the North? The Iron Islands are west of Westeros, and Deepwood Motte is in the northwest of the North. How does he not know these things? Euron III Greyjoy
I suppose you could say that he was disorientated from being locked in a dark room getting tortured and just wasn't thinking straight, but the real reason is probably that the showrunners just didn't put that much thought into it. This is not a question about houses, but about location. It could be any of the many strongholds of the North.
