There’s no doubt about it, Killing Eve has really captured the imagination of the global audience ever since it was first shown on BBC America last year and then, later on in 2018, on BBC One in the UK.

The tale of psychopathic hitwoman, Villanelle (Jodie Comer), and British intelligence offer Eve (Sandra Oh), they formed a dynamic, very watchable cat-and-mouse team. Thrown in a story and script written by the superb Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and it was no wonder it became a huge global hit.

With filming now more or less completed on series two, some first-look images have emerged:

Coming Spring 2019! wohoo :)

My God, if this was the best new show of 2018 I'm glad I don't watch a lot of television anymore :o

Matter of taste. I loved it too though I thought it ended a bit abruptly. I could have used another 2 episodes.

I have received a great deal of incredulous and angry push-back from loads of feminists for sharing your opinion.

But I maintain that people were told, OOOO new and oh so shiny, the best -- women violence! so everybody drank the kool aid and neither actually thought through anything, thus not noticing that what they were swallowing was cotton candy laced with threads of blood.  Blood, spilled by female, so yay! good!

Nah, we just liked it.

You’re absolutely right, of course, it couldn’t possibly be as simple as people having a different taste to you

Yea. This entered my mind exactly zero times.

I can see how some people might not be 100% impressed by the story of the show, which goes off the rails ever so slightly in the final third, but almost everything else about the show is incredible. The writing, the dialogue, the performances, just how snappy it is, it's ever so off kilter version of the world, even the costumes and the locations are great.

Anyone who doesn't love the show has no heart or joy in their lives.

And the television is grateful for not having you against it :D

Only feminists? No one accused you of racism? Hmmm, well, it seems it is only reserved for critics of "Black Panther"

I liked the show. Comer and Oh were amazing, it had its own unique flare. I understand why others may feel otherwise, it is not a show that would attract to masses (not trying to diminish the criticism of the show, just to emphasize the point that the show is not to everyone's liking). Also, this reminds me a bit of True Detective. Simply, it walks on rather narrow path, and if it strays a bit, it will get ruined (needless to say, think about Cate Blanchett as Galadriel saying this)

It was a waste of at least one darned good actor, Sandra Oh.  I'm not so sure about the other one, for various reasons, the non-originality of her character among the forefront.

Nah, it was people who watch loads of tv and read and write loads of recaps (some professionally, some not), all of whom, whatever gender identifications, identify as feminists.  I find it kind of funny and baffling, as they all also bemoan the rapes and other sexual matters in Outlander, which is all about the female gaze, not the male gaze.  Killing Eve is really all about the male gaze -- even unto the inclusion of that classic, always popular grade c flick and semi or full porn scenarios -- women behind bars!

I can see people not liking it if they thought it was going to be a spy show/thriller and they get a bizarre comedy where the spy genre is almost deliberately made out to be mundane. But i thought it was one of the most unique voices in tv this year.

I'm still concerned about them losing waller-bridge as showrunner/writer though.

I'm also curious as to whether the books have the same sense of humour. The similarity with "fleabag" has me thinking it is as much waller-bridge's creation in terms of style. That or she found a creative soul-mate in the author

I’m amazed that any feminist would hate the show, seeing as its one of the best examples of a show with female characters taking on real roles and it feeling completely natural, rather than some sort of box ticking exercise. I watched the show at the same time as Bodyguard and you always got the sense they were crowbarring women into roles.

Killing Eve should be the template for feminist drama.

In what way is Killing Eve all about the male gaze?

Yeah I can understand why someone (even a feminist!!!) wouldn't like Killing Eve, it's very definitely a show with a tone that's going to just put some people off and the narrative throughline at the end does come a little loose so liking the tone is necessary, but I don't get the male gaze accusation at all.

Killing Eve was one of my favorite new shows of 2018 along with Counterpart. I have to agree with other boarders about being slightly worried about the change in writer. Waller-Bridge hit that sweet spot with the series. Not an easy balancing act to pull off and I can only hope her oversight next season has the same success as her writing.
