Stannis Aegon parallels

Recommended Posts

Second child of their family.

Both liked Dragonstone more than King's Landing although it is their duty to  stay in the former.

Bothe declared themselves kings in Dragonstone.

Excellent military leaders, but not fighters.

Both had bastard brothers - Orys and Robert.

Both had 2 queens.

Visenya and Melisandre like magic.

Rhaenys and Selyse rhyme.

Maegor and Shadow baby parallels.

Shireen and Aenys are weak heirs.

Both fought against Reach-Lannister alliance.

Robert wasn’t a bastard brother of Stannis.

Frankly, you picked the wrong Aegon. Stannis shares far more parallels with Aegon III than Aegon I:

-both were overshadowed by their older brothers

-both saw their mothers die horribly at a young age, traumatizing them for life

-both have a very cutting wit which comes at the expense of those around them

-both were determined to give justice to the people

-both blamed themselves for their brothers’ demise despite neither being directly responsible

-both trusted one solitary person for a part of their lives (Davos, Gaemon Palehair)

-neither one seems to have enjoyed the act of sex, or liked being around women in general

-both tend to brood and take no pleasure in conventional activities

-both of them loathe the nobility and don’t trust them, while their lack of people skills make it impossible for them to connect with people.

-both have important interactions with a descendant of House Stark which shapes their lives in crucial ways (Cregan, Jon Snow)

I don't see the maegor and shadow baby parallel. Mel is no queen at all. Shireen is a girl and Aenys is far less week as an heir. There is also no Bastard brother for Stannis. You can also name enough points were they are different;
- Stannis killed his brother Aegon not (also his sister not).
- Aegon fought diffrent battles first (Crownlands and Riverlands)
- Selyse loves Rholor and the wives of Aegon the faith
- Stannis is one of the heirs of Robert and Aegon is a king by conquering

And many more points..

There is theory that Visenya used magic to create Maegor.

They call him queen in the series.

By the way, Aegon supported Faith but he was not religious man just as Stannis support Rholor but wasn't religious man.

I agree with James. Stannis is far more like Aegon III than Aegon the Conqueror.

In understand what you mean, but is not a comparison as for example Aerea and Arya who has exactly the same character or the two queen regents in the vale who share a same story. Also the diffrence in character between Aegon and Stannis, but also their warpath is really a big difference. So its not that there are no comparisons, but Mel for example is not queen, because she is just not married. I think if you compare the characters  of Stannis / Alaric, Arya /Arrea and for example Brienne/Dunc is much more clear and so are many. Its also not clear if Visenya was a witch, because its just that people are saying it about her, so happened often in mid evil times. If she did than a comparison between Visenya and Sierra seastar would have been much more clear and between Mel and Alys Rivers who are both Rholor fanatics (staring in fires) and had sex with a King, who is not accepting as king yet (Aemond and Stannis). So your theory is not wrong, but its quit a stretch, there are better options.
