Cricket 34: Bring Your Own Sandpaper

Some selection shocks yesterday for Australia with the Marshes, Handscomb and Finch all dropped for the Sri Lanka series. Pucovski, Burns and Renshaw will be duking it out in a tour game next week, with the highest run-getters likely to play the day-night test at the 'Gabba.

How widespread is the corruption in Sri Lanka cricket that they need an amnesty??

And this story still isn't as big as sandpapergate!

Sadly I don’t think it’s overly surprising. The corruption and cronyism that infected the entire country during the Rajapaksa years didn’t spare cricket.

I like Australia’s selections for the India ODIs, but it’s probably too late to be making these kinds of changes so close to a World Cup.

Pakistani batsmen showed good resolve yesterday and were much improved in their shot selection. Finishing the day on 153/3, it looked like they may be able to make things interesting but normal service resumed and it was just a procession on day 4 losing their last 7 wickets for 120 runs.

The Goober himself, Shane Watson, scores a century in a Big Bash T20 to set up a big score, Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat.

The Heat are down 2/10 after 3 overs having lost both Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, their two big hitters.

Suddenly, a light tower switches off and can't be turned back on again. Play abandoned and the points are split.

Cunning Brisbanites.

Only thing is, there's a day-night test in a couple of weeks' time so they'd better hope they can reliably provide power throughout all the days...

You know you watch too much cricket when you see the headlines about Theresa May being down by 432 to 202 and wonder whether Jeremy Corbyn is going to enforce the follow-on.

Hah! Corbyn seems like the sort who would never enforce the follow-on and just keep batting all day while the chances of victory slip away.

Third and final ODI between Australia and India today - the series has been really good with two close games so far and a 1-1 scoreline. Hopefully the third is a cracker.

That does seem to be the perfect metaphor for Corbyn's Brexit strategy.

Decent start with the bat by the Windies in Barbados. Two quick wickets from Stokes has put it back in the balance though, especially given how fragile their batting lineup has tended to be.

I think England will be the happier with the result of the day's play, although the Windies do at least have some runs on the board. It looks like a classic example of several batsmen getting starts but no-one going on to a big innings, leading to an uninspiring total.

Jeez, the Windies bottled that. Looked to be in a pretty good position at 200-4.

The first Sri Lankan test match is about to get underway. I'm not at all optimistic about the visitors' chances, even though the could hardly be facing Australia at a better time.

Clearly they were just lulling England into a false sense of security.

77 all out, Jesus Christ. On the plus side it’s only England’s 3rd worst total in the West Indies ever.

There was a statistic that England have only won a single series in the Caribbean since the 60s. Somehow I don't think that's going to change this year.

England's selection policy has quickly gone from masterful (the return of Buttler, Ali) to manic (Jennings again? Two spinners at Bridgetown when WI pick four quicks?)

It really is anyone's guess what kind of line-up they pick these days.

Cricinfo reckon that Jennings will finally be dropped in favour of a Test debut for Joe Denly, and Broad will replace Rashid. I'm fairly confident in the second change, we'll see whether Denly can offer any sort of answer to England's opening conundrum.
