Workable. They were on their horses at the time. Horses = heightening. They try not to dismount until after you've married them for this reason. Dany's 'white mare' was Jorah on all fours, who could easily keep pace with the other ponies. The short gait of the horses also accounts for how it took the khalisar an entire book to cross a small swath of desert that fits onto a mere one-page map.
