Alyn Oakenfist
Romania, the second worst country in all of the EU, and probably the most corrupt. Then again the country itself is very beautiful. If you want more specifics I'm from Bucharest, which is at the same time one of the ugliest and most beautiful cities in the word. Also for anybody else from Romania, Muie PSD!!!!!! Ser Reptitious

Our neighbors and brothers the Bulgarians who rank just below us (though by a narrow margin) at almost everything. Though in terms of corruption ours is more widespread while theirs is way more institutionalized (here it's more ground level, with the higher levels while still corrupt going to prison quite a lot because of out pretty great anti-corruption agency, while in Bulgaria the corruption problem is tamer at the lower level, but at the upper level they're almost an oligarchy). Jokes aside but staying on the matter, it is true that we have a very rich history that left a lot of historical landmarks (especially in Transylvania) that however we are badly under using. We have a lot of palaces and castles that could rival the Loire that are just left to decay. We are a country with great potential still shackled by the shadow of communism that really fucked up our country and the communists (like members of the former communist party) that are in control of almost every political party nowadays and have a great degree of control over our country (not total control though thank God). As the Spartans said to the Macedonians, if. 9 hours ago, Rufus Snow said: Make Dacia great again! Honestly Dacia, is a bit of a stretch. If it can be said that we Romanians draw from any people, then that people are the Romans (for Pete's sake our language is 80% Latin). Calling us Dacians is like calling the French Gauls. Sadly both here and in France there is a cult in the populace in revering a bygone civilization that just so happened to inhabit this land. As for the conspiracy theories, they're just great. For example a very large chunk of the population actually believed the idea that the Romans were actually secretly Dacians, and that Latin is actually Dacian. As for Romania, things are starting to look promising. The former communist party (now named the social democrats, even though they are neither socialists nor democratic) has finally lost the position of PM, and soon (after the corona) there will be a general election that seems like it will be the first time there's actually a chance for reform with the neo-communists seeming to get somewhere around 20% as opposed to the usual 45%. Though given how deep rooted our problems are, it's going to be a long journey. Thank God for the EU and NATO, without them we would still be up shit's creek. The Sunland Lord
Macedonia, Balkans, Europe. Not in the EU. Pretty much @Alyn Oakenfist described well the situation in many countries that were under communism till 1990. Just like there, in Romania, people like to connect to ancient Dacians, (which I didn't know) here many people want to connect with ancient Macedonians becase of Philip and Alexander III. But the truth is that we speak a Slavic language and we are considered as part of the Slavic group of nations. As a result from a political dispute with Greece with the name Macedonia, we officially changed it into North Macedonia, so that we can enter NATO (which we already have) and start negotiations to enter the EU. But, last year Macron said no to this, and proposed that we can only enter if we manage to solve our many internal issues. This is also truth. We were under a tyrannical regime that lasted from 2006 till 2017, and (not that before 2006 everything was great, far from it) we are still dealing with the enormous damages done during that period. The new government shows many weaknesses to deal with the problems and many times it failed, due to multiple reasons, but I have to admit that at least we are enjoying bigger freedom than we did before. @Alyn Oakenfist, I visited Bucharest, Brasov, the castle Bran, and many more places in Romania for the New Year of 2013/2014. I enjoyed it very much.

Now I don't want to play the victim here or anything, but from what I know what you had wasn't as horrid (still pretty horrid, I mean we're talking bout communsim) as what we had. A lot of people from Romania escaped by swimming over the Danube into Yugoslavia, and then going through Trieste into Italy. But also to be fair we didn't have the massive shitstorm that was the Yugoslav wars, that probably make all suffering under communism pale. I don't really remember, was Macedonia involved. I know one republic left Yugoslavia without bloodshed, but can't remember if it's Slovenia or Macedonia. 45 minutes ago, The Sunland Lord said: But the truth is that we speak a Slavic language and we are considered as part of the Slavic group of nations. The same, here except it's even stupider. You at least try and connect to the most glorious and prestigious part of your history, despite being as latin as the Italians (somehow, honestly nobody really knows why), and having a really easy connection with Rome we consider ourselves ,,dacians" a people we know almost nothing about, and which basically only populated Romania. Even our bloody name comes from Rome. 48 minutes ago, The Sunland Lord said: But, last year Macron said no to this, and proposed that we can only enter if we manage to solve our many internal issues. This is also truth. I think it's a little bit hypocritical. Speaking from our case joining the EU, and the combination of receiving their money and being under their legislation and oversight is probably what prevented us from going completely downhill, and is the reason why we still have a somewhat functional country (it has tons of problems, but it is slowly reforming and the country is doing progress). So I find this odd, seeing as joining the EU is probably the best way of getting rid of said internal problems. 51 minutes ago, The Sunland Lord said: @Alyn Oakenfist, I visited Bucharest, Brasov, the castle Bran, and many more places in Romania for the New Year of 2013/2014. I enjoyed it very much. Really nice. Though in my opinion the best area of Romania is inner Transylvania, with a lot of great cities, monuments, and actual civilization, like Sibiu, Cluj and Sighisoara. The reason they're so nice is because Germans used to live in there (regrettably not anymore, we lost out good minorities more specifically the Germans and the Jews, and got left with only the Magyars who have the nationalism dial turned to 11), and as such the places are a lot more civilized, and are very beautiful.
