Popular shows you quit on

The Black List and the Walking Dead for me.

Watched about 2 seasons of the Black List, before I realized James Spader was basically the only thing I liked about that show and they were pretty much making him a gary stu. Always being 4 steps ahead of everyone else. He's an amazing actor, but I hate those type of characters.

Watched about 4 or 5 seasons of The Walking Dead, I think the one with the whole Glenn thing was the final one for me. Seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan attack a camera might be the dumbest way I saw a season end ever.

Well shit it seems from reading replies I have forgotten a fair few.

Black Sails I quit in the final season. Once they killed Ray Stevenson after never even using the character or actor properly I got pissed off. Fuck that.

Heroes is another, it's a long time ago now but I didn't make it far into S2.

Person of Interest: Gave it a chance but it was always a bullshit serialized show for basic tv. Didn't even manage to make it to the end of S1. Utter tripe.

I didn't include comedies because they're the type of shows you can duck in and out of and not so reliant on a story arc as such.

Perhaps a better thread would ask the question what shows turned to complete dogshit but managed to recover in later seasons. Not many I would guess.

On GoT, well I’m actually angry at myself because I’ve been backed into a corner and will have to finish it, but the last season was a travesty, a disgrace to everything I enjoyed about the show previously ( the reason I am here). Usually if a show is bad or deteriorates I can leave it, but that’s out of the question with GoT.

I get both sides of the GoT issue.  The first several seasons were great IMO, as good an adaption as you could realistically ask for.  But the last two or three seasons had more cheese than in the 77 courses of the Purple Wedding.  Since there are only 7 hours left or so, there's no question I finish it out.  It doesn't hurt that I typically drink a bottle of red and eat about a pound of sopressatta and really nice cheese each Sunday night when a new ep drops.  And some times some dark chocolate too.  (Casino comps baby!  Pay cash for the wine though...)

I think my DVR is recording the current season of True Detective, but whether I get to it before I dump my cable is probably a toss up.  I found the Colin whats his name character compelling enough to keep watching last season.  Vince Vaughan's was tbh probably only OK because I enjoyed some of his previous work so much.  And it was the only thing I've ever watched with Rachel McAdams, but remember liking her work too.  And the villian guy who was also in Orphan Black is so easy to hate.  But this was a show that nailed the opening 80 % of season 1 and then sort of petered out.  It's like the "Sunday Morning Coming Down" of television.  (Probably my favorite first 10 lines or so of any song, but didn't stick the landing with the same greatness.)

OK on second thought, I'm over valuing the start of True Detective, but Sunday Morning Coming Down has got to be one of the top two songs ever about being hung over, along with "My Head Hurts My Feet Stink and I Don't Love Jesus".

What I mean is that GoT is a show I simply cannot just leave any more. I’m locked into it for a variety of reasons.

Ive invested so much time and mental energy into the show, become and obsessive fan boy in the first few seasons, that I don’t know how I can just forget it exists ( although it’s amazing how little I think about the show these days)

Also the hype and media presence of the show means I will be constantly bombarded with news and info, I might as well see it first hand. Add into the fact that  my family and other half still love it, and I don’t have much choice.

I don’t believe Martin is going to finish the series and so if I want any closure,  no matter how poorly implemented then the show is my only source. It’s a sad state of affairs. I don’t need to go over all the reasons why the show has gotten worse, I think a lot of us already know them and can see the deterioration in quality over the past few seasons.

Its painful but I will need to watch it

Black Sails first two seasons were such combination of nasty sex, violence and dull I quit.  But some viewers here insisted that the later seasons were stunning.  So I trusted them and continued a year or two after the series finished.  I agreed with the viewers here about how much better it got, so much so at times my mouth fell open.

So very seldom does this happen that a show that is disappointing redeems itself and gets better.

The series that I go all the way with are always at worst interesting in each episode, and overall the season will be at worst good.  Buffy is a great example of this.  But then, Buffy was exceptional in so many ways, including even episodes that the first time around I thought were pointless and stupid -- and then watching them again later, I found value in them.  At the moment I'm thinking particularly of the Spiral episode in which they are in a Winnebago chased by Knights of Byzantium, on horseback with swords and crossbows  -- you see what I mean? --in season 5.  And of course everything was redeemed by that killer finale.

Homeland after season 3. The Dana stuff was just too much for me. Ruined the show. Thought the first season was brilliant which carried me through S3 till I stopped.

House of Cards after season 3. Just lost interest. Great first couple seasons.

Should've quit Dexter after season 4. First 4 were brilliant, though S3 is not as good as 1,2 and 4. The rest were awful, so I can't say I didn't finish it.

I feel bad to say I fell out of The Expanse, The 100, and The Magicians. I fully plan on catching up if I find time.

I burned out on Hannibal on S3, which was the last season iirc.

I quit Walking Dead for sure and should have quite True Blood but somehow finished it, I think.

I'm amazed that people actually quit GoT.  I think that there are more things to nitpick in the later seasons than the earlier seasons but that it's still the most entertaining show on TV.

You watch bad TV.

Babylon 5 - whaaaaaat? OK, I actually didn't watch back when it aired. I watched it last year. I liked it, and even loved it at times, until I got to the last season, and it was sooo slooow, and why was Ivanova gone, and I couldn't go on. I haven't been able to go back to it.

Has been a long time since I watched that show. The thing about season 5 is that the show was expected to be cancelled after season 4, so they rushed some plot lines to have a conclusion. They also shot a final episode that was supposed to be the finale to the whole series, and set up the plot for a successor. That episode was then aired as the finale of season 5. I'm not sure that the reasons for Claudia Christian leaving the show have ever been disclosed.

As stated above there are so many good things around why waste your time on bad TV.  The ones i got closest to the end and then gave up on were Battlestar Gallactica and Boardwalk Empire.  The first because it got too stupid and the second because i realised i didn't care about any of the characters.  I got to about half way through the final season of both.

I gave up on Breaking Bad halfway through the final season as well, but that was because my DVD player broke and i realised i didn't really need one anymore, i know its now on Netflix but i've just never got around to finishing it.

I wish more people on the board would stop watching GOT, if you give every epiosde 1/10 but keep watching and moaning you are a fucking moron.

Most of mine are in here already. Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, Dexter, Walking Dead, Daredevil, Vikings, Mr. Robot, and I never finished Mad Men either.  I only got a couple episodes into Leftovers, Six Feet Under and House of Cards before dropping them so not sure if they count.

Could see myself dropping better call Saul tbh

Because of convenience.  I am much less inclined to start a new show than continue one I'm already invested in even if the latter sucks now and there are tons of people saying I should try out the former.  I suppose that doesn't seem rational, but subconsciously I think I ascribe some sort of "effort" to starting a new show.

I agree I don't get the people that have spent the past few seasons solely hate-watching the show, but to each their own.  I still watch it to try to find the entertaining aspects, which really isn't too hard because the production is now a lot like turning off your brain and watching most superhero movies.

Most people want what they already know. Rather than excellence they are looking for comfort, thus they continue and even like! shows I can't stand. (but hey, it ain't about me). Their comfort comes from dependability.  They prefer to hope what they depended on will return when things go south rather than invest time and effort into exploration for something new and better (better in my opinion, but my opinion is irrelevant, you know?).

Vikings (after the high with an Asia princess episode)

Iron fist and luke cage ,(after season 1). Jessica jones after season 2 ep3

Homeland (after end season 4)

True blood (gave up after whichever season ended started in pixieland)

Supernatural (after season 7) but might return

Arrow (season 5) flash (after season 2)

Walking dead (skipped season 8, returned for 9 but on verge of quitting again after last two episodes). FTWD (after season 1)

Outlander (after season 1)

Man in the high castle (by this point i should probably be honest and admit that I've given up on this by season 3 ep 1)

Star trek discovery: if I don't catch up soon I'll be adding this to the quit pile fron season 2 ep 2.

Not entirely sure i'll bother with season 2 of American gods unless i hear it has turned things around.

I'm a lot more ruthless with shows these days. Like others have mentioned shows like sons of anarchy and Dexter taught me life is too short to waste hours/days hoping something will improve as they rarely do without some major overhaul/change in showrunner.

:lol::rofl:
