Jon will die and his body will become a wight.  His mind will not perish because he's a warg.  Jon's spirit will reside in Ghost.

The mounts are symbols of these three dead men.  The horse is the heart and soul of the Dothraki.  Drogo symbolically gave Dany the heart of his people with the gift of the silver mare.  Vic will likewise give Daenerys the Ironborn with the Iron Fleet.  Jon will safely live his second life in Ghost.  Daenerys will continue her pattern of burning the dead and burn Jon's wighted body.   The direwolf is the symbol of the ancient kings of the north.  Daenerys will win the Starks and Free Folk to her side through Ghost.  Jon-Ghost will pave the way to make this happen.

The mounts are gifts from Drogo, Vic, and Jon.  The mounts connect Dany to these people, Dothraki, Ironborn, and the Free Folk.  The Dothraki will fight slavery in Essos, the Ironborn that was Vic's will provide transportation.  The Free Folk will be the people of the north and survivors of the long night.  Basically three peoples whose cooperation she will need.

And she will roast those people for their betrayal.  The pattern has been established with the execution of MMD and the House of the Undying visions.  Execution, funeral, followed by a valuable reward.  Jon has already committed treason against the Watch and the prophecy did say "three treasons will you know."  Three treasons to be made aware of.

This is tightly correlated with the three fires.  Three purposes are achieved with the fires:  funeral for the boys, execution of a traitor, and some sort of miracle.  Chink in the wall is akin to a chink in an armor.  It's a weak spot.  Jon created a weak spot on the wall.  Some have written of the sweet smell of death.  Like an overripe fruit having a sweet smell.  The meaning to me is the avoidance of death and decay.  Jon's soul will continue to live in his wolf despite the death of his body.  Thus the flower remains fresh.  Victarion and Jon (body only) will be burned.  I don't think Ghost will be ridden but he is the bridge between Daenerys and Bran.  Ghost is the key to the Starks.  Ghost will be the leader of the direwolf Stark pack by the time Daenerys arrives in Westeros.

An overripe fruit is near rotten.  It is not free of decay because it is very close to rot.  It's part of the bittersweet.  The death of the body but the continuation of the soul within the wolf.

The  blue rose is Jon.  Mance Rayder slept with Lyanna and produced Jon.  It's a repeat of the tale of Bael and the daughter of the Stark in Winterfell.  Mance repeated the feat and got Lyanna pregnant.  Jon took a different path from his ancestor and spared his wildling dad instead of killing him.

“Sweet smells are sometimes used to cover foul ones.”

But that doesn't necessarily have to mean death. Sweetness has also been used to describe lies and deceit. Like captain of Adventure who doesn't intend to take Quentyn to Meereen, like the honeyed locusts, like everyone in Qarth, like the deceptive roses of Highgarden, like Roose's advice ("power tastes best when sweetened by courtesy"), like the sweet-smelling grass that hides the viper, like King's Landing, and like Bael, the deceiver.

Either way, if the sperm came from Rhaegar or Mance, the blue rose symbolism still stands.  The father can even be Brandon and the symbolism can still stand on one leg because his mother is a Stark.  The blue rose is a Stark maid.

So the fact that it was Rhaegar, not Mance, who gave Lyanna a crown of blue roses doesn't matter in the least? And why do we get the image of Lyanna with the crown in Ned's PoVs as well as Theon's dream? By focusing only on blue rose = Stark maiden, you're leaving this aspect out entirely.

It would not matter at all.  That's the point of the story.  It's not about who is the son of who.  It's not even about who has the throne.  It's about survival.  Starvation, frostbite, greyplague, they don't care who your mommy and daddy are.  Death is an equal opportunity visitor.  Which bard gave the rose is of no import because the land will suffer a prolonged winter.

Well surely its going to matter to the plot who Jon is the son of, otherwise it wouldn't even need to be a secret. The blue rose hints to Jon's parentage and at least a Stark maiden, it's not necessarily Jon himself though.

I think you misunderstand the point. If the blue rose crown is of no importance, why does the author repeatedly use its imagery ? You don't do such things in writing unless you want it to have some meaning.

You could say Mance dug a crack on the wall and planted HIS seed, Jon Snow, in the crack.  The roots of the rose will further undermine the wall.  Which is exactly what happened when Jon became commander.

Or Dany could just follow the vision itself. And/or Howland Reed could emerge.

The campaign against slavery will reduce the Dothraki population and thus open the way to a more peaceful Essos.
