BBC releases first images from The North Water
https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a29730275/line-of-duty-stephen-graham-first-look-bbc-north-water/

Quote

Stephen Graham, Tom Courtenay and Peter Mullan are among the names joining Colin Farrell and Jack O’Connell in Andrew Haigh’s forthcoming adaptation of The North Water. The BBC has unveiled the first look as Graham joins the cast of its adaptation of Ian McGuire's acclaimed novel The North Water, already set to star Jack O'Connell as a disgraced former army surgeon serving on an arctic whaling boat with a brutal killer played by The Batman star Colin Farrell.

Graham recently spent three weeks filming in Svalbard at the North Pole alongside fellow new cast members Sam Spruell (Outlaw King), Tom Courtenay (Unforgotten), Peter Mullan (Westworld) and Philip Hill-Pearson (Coronation Street).

In The North Water, Graham will be playing the gruff captain of the whaling ship Volunteer. Tom Courtenay has been cast as the ship's owner.

The three-part drama recently completed its first leg of filming in the Arctic, shooting for three weeks in Svalbard. The unit travelled as far as 81 degrees north to film sequences in the pack ice, the furthest point north it is believed a drama series has ever filmed before.

It tells the story of Patrick Sumner (O’Connell), a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. On board he meets the harpooner Henry Drax (Farrell), a brutish killer whose amorality has been shaped to fit the harshness of his world. Hoping to escape the horrors of his past, Sumner finds himself in a male-dominated world, on an ill-fated journey with a murderous psychopath. In search of redemption, his story becomes a harsh struggle for survival in the Arctic wasteland.

Production on the BBC's four-part adaptation of The North Water is currently underway in Hungary. The North Water is set in Hull and the ice floes of the Arctic in the late 1850s.

Look out for it in 2020.

EXCLUSIVE: New Republic Pictures’ Brian Oliver and producer Bradley J. Fischer acquired the exclusive rights to all works in Michael Moorcock’s seminal fantasy-horror series The Elric Saga. They are beginning to shop the property for series, with Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead and The Shield) and Prison Break and Star Trek: Discovery‘s Vaun Wilmott attached to adapt the sci-fi fantasy tale....

Fischer and New Republic see the Elric saga — which begins with the 1972 novel Elric of Melniboné, as having cross-platform franchise potential. They are first leaning into the TV series with Mazzara & Wilmott. The novels are sensual and atmospheric sword-and-sorcery tales that center on the title character, a brooding albino warrior who presides over an unruly, decadent island nation. The novels follow Elric on a series of adventures, in which he is betrayed by his cousin, sent into exile and attempts to come to terms with his own humanity. The series comprises 11 novels and a number of short stories and has been adapted into several comics and graphic novels....

Mazzara should provide the voice of Stormbringer, given how bad he is as a showrunner.

Guess we'll see what a low budget fantasy show will look like and how to get 10 seasons out of 4 season's worth of plot.

The eight-episode series marks the 500th Anniversary of Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes’ arrival in Mexico. Mozart in the Jungle star Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, who starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, have joined Amazon Studios and Amblin Television’s four-hour miniseries based on the epic saga of Hernan Cortes.

The WME-represented pair will executive produce the series, currently known as the Untitled Cortés and Moctezuma Project, which stars Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, Biutiful) in the title role.

The project has also named Ciro Guerra (Waiting for the Barbarians) and Cristina Gallego (Birds of Passage, Embrace of the Serpent) as directors for all four episodes of what is being described as the largest Spanish-language production of all time.

Production designer Eugenio Caballero, an Oscar winner for his work on Pan’s Labyrinth, also joins alongside costume designer Anna Terrazas (Spectre) and casting director Luis Rosales (Chicuarotes). The Mexican production will be overseen by Stacy Perskie (Narcos: Mexico) and local production company REDRUM.

Penned by Oscar-winning Schindler’s List writer Steven Zaillian, the series centers on the legendary conqueror Hernan Cortes (Bardem), who led a rebellious expedition to the heart of King Montezuma II’s Aztec empire, connecting two civilizations for the first time and changing the course of history.

The project originated in 2014 as a feature written by Dalton Trumbo (Roman Holiday), with Steven Spielberg eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle. It eventually morphed into a four-hour miniseries through Spielberg’s Amblin Television, so it can do justice to the scope of the epic story.

I assume they call it that because of Cortés' conflict with the governor of Cuba. But I agree that it is probably not the first or most fitting term one thinks of when it comes to Hernan Cortés.

War of the Worlds (Fox Networks Group/StudioCanal) (Anglo-French production)

Quote

This Anglo-French reimagining of H. G. Wells' classic in the style of Walking Dead follows pockets of survivors forced to team up after an apocalyptic extra-terrestrial strike.War of the Worlds is a television series produced by Fox Networks Group and StudioCanal.

Starring Gabriel Byrne, Léa Drucker, Elizabeth McGovern, Adel Bencherif, Natasha Little, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Bayo Gbadamosi, Ty Tennant, Aaron Heffernan, Stephen Campbell Moore, Paul Gorostidi, Stéphane Caillard and Scott James.

The series takes place in present-day Europe, similar to the 2005 film by Steven Spielberg, but it serves as a re-imagining of the classic H.G. Wells' novel.

“     In this new take on War Of The Worlds, when astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. Earth's population waits for further contact with bated breath, but does not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out, with just pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world. As alien ships appear in the sky, the survivors ask a burning question — who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction?

The series was released in full on MyCanal in France on October 28, 2019, before being broadcast from October 28 in weekly batches of two episodes, and was released in most parts of Europe and Africa weekly between October 30 and December 18, 2019. On November 21, 2019, it was announced that the series is set to premiere in the United States on February 16, 2020 on Epix and on SBS in Australia in 2020.

What a scamp. Hopefully the show will show how he resisted the indigenous people during his rebellion. I'm still interested in the show though as long as it isn't all about how heroic cortes is.

Seems to be a good time for war of the worlds. Or bad if you keep discovering people can't resist on putting their own spin on it. It's starting to feel like 3 legged alien invasion is war of the worlds now.
