Lumosaca
A Game of Thrones Best: Eddard. A Game of Thrones is Eddard's book. Worst: Sansa. All her chapters should belong to someone else. A Clash of Kings Best: Tyrion. A Clash of Kings is Tyrion's book. Worst: Daenerys. I could not care less about Qarth. A Storm of Swords Best: Jaime. Awesome character. Worst: All of them are really great. A Feast for Crows Best: Jaime again. Awesome character! Worst: Brienne. What the hell was going on? A Dance with Dragons Best: Theon. Best storyline in the series. Worst: Tyrion. Too much chapters about his travel. Honorable mentions: Daenerys in AGOT. Theon in ACOK. Catelyn in ASOS. Cersei in AFFC. Jon in ADWD. Caligula_K3
A Game of Thrones Best: Eddard/Tyrion: Ned because he draws you into the world perfectly and provides you with a strong moral center, until his death reveals that everything you thought you knew about the direction of this series is wrong. Tyrion for making the first book fun and witty. Worst: Dany. These are good chapters. But a lot of the Dothraki stuff is just uncomfortably orientalizing. And I never really bought into her romance with Khal Drogo. A Clash of Kings Best: Tyrion, for obvious reasons. Worst: Dany/Jon. Dany in Qarth is boring. Jon north of the wall is a complete anti-climax. A Storm of Swords Best: Jaime. Wonderful character development. Worst: Bran. The first time a character arc is "travel from point A to point B" in far too many chapters. There's good stuff in here, but at least some of his ADWD chapters should have been part of this book. A Feast for Crows Best: Slim pickings, but probably Jaime for providing some wit and having an actual arc. Worst: Brienne. The Iron Islands cast. The Dorne cast. Sansa. Some of these have good moments (Brienne's storyline picks up in her last four chapters), but there's way too little substance in these chapters for the amount of space GRRM gives them. A Dance with Dragons Best: Reek. Incredible psychological horror. Worst: Tyrion/Dany/Quentyn. Dany and Tyrion: Endless travel and uninteresting political machinations with characters and worldbuilding we don't care about. Quentyn: a complete waste of space that retroactively ruins the only interesting part of the Dornish plotline from AFFC.

And somewhat Jon Connington/Victarion. As a whole, they had a few good chapters, but for the most part it was a slog The whole Meereen thing unnecessarily weighed down A Dance with Dragons. It all seemed cumbersome and unnecessary. Deep-diving into the politics of the Slavers' Bay cities, and Eastern Essos is rather uninteresting. Lots of Ghiscari and Yunkish names, ins and outs of various mercenary companies and their leaders.... all the travel to get there from 3-4 POVs. Too much. Hopefully this thing gets wrapped up in the first 100 pages of WoW.
