Does anyone else join me in really not liking having to visit Las Vegas?

I can remember people walking around smoking in the mall in Virginia, but I'm afraid to put a date on it.  Into the late 90's I think.

Me, my mother, and grandmother stayed in Las Vegas for three days in June of 2015 (we stayed at The Orleans). Originally, we were to attend a family reunion, but those plans fell through the day we got there, but fortunately my great Uncle and Aunt were also in town at the same time and they spent the next couple of days as our de facto tour guides.

All of us had a blast. We traveled up and down the Strip during the day and night taking pictures, we visited the fabulous Las Vegas sign, we ate at the buffets in the Orleans, New York New York (where I ate sushi the first time), and Palace Station. We visited the hotel where my great Uncle and Aunt stayed at (the SLS), and we even visited the Hoover Dam and the surrounding area. My only regret is that I didn't get to try In-n-Out Burger.

The Bunny Ranch is in northern Nevada, just outside of Carson City.    There are several brothels there in an area known as Mound House. 

Former Nevadan here who lived in Reno a long time. Been to Vegas once, hated it, hated the Strip a lot.  

Having worked in casinos for 10+ years just couldn't stand it. Red Rocks Canyon was great though.

Steven King's book THE STAND went to Vegas too.  Good name recognition I guess.

Regarding artifacts when I was there they had a King Tut exhibit at either the Luxor or Caesars Palace but I cant remember which, that was nice though.

Also they constantly promoted this "Bodies" exhibit, didnt bother with that as it seemed absolutely hideous, bunch of mummified and preserved body parts, I just couldnt get the attraction to that but it was a thing for months.

The Mirage had a  great Beatles show which featured Cirque du Soleil , this was quite spectacular.

I'm almost 40, and I cant reiterate this enough....BOSS. THE. FUCK. UP.

Geeesh. I dont party, have children and I am a responsible adult. Haven't been to a bar(in my living area) in over 10 years. Dont do clubs, or any of that nonsense in day to day life. Might drink a 6 pack a month and marijuana is my only occasional guilty pleasure. But, ffs...you only live once. Buy a 8 ball and do lines off of paid for adult entertainment(M/F, whatever floats your boat). WHEN. IN. VEGAS. (Illegal shit, is really legal. Just dont go overboard and stab anybody, you know?)

Seriously, I just went into a mild depression reading this thread. And, if your honest with yourself (others who read but didnt post), you did too. I was excitedly awaiting the inevitable "Vegas Stories", and was going to share mine.(went twice, 22&35. Loved every moment, but realized anymore than 2 days and I'd die. For Real.) But......damn.

I have anxiety myself, not uncomfortable with myself at all, usual anxiety. Dont like bars and crowded places, but you just have to let go every 10 years to avoid a heart attack.

I don’t like Vegas for the same reasons others really enjoy it.  I look forward, on my next trip to seeing more of the beautiful wilderness outside of the city and much less of the city itself.

I’m 48 in less than two weeks.  I know what I like and dislike.

You missed the best part.  There also used to be a very good Mexican-style restaurant in the Orleans, that had the greatest chips/salsa/guacamole/bean dip they automatically served you with, in the world. 

I've been to LV many times for trade shows with my husband.  There's an overall sense of desperation that hangs over the place in my view, but I can find something to entertain me just about anywhere, so I did.

Visited Steve Winn's private art collection, which was absolutely magnificent.  Don't know if it's still open.

Visited a friend of mine who'd opened a court reporting firm there and got to see the "real" LV, if such exists. Anyway, it showed me how normal the rest of the town is.  Also saw a lot of the surrounding desert, which was not all blasted, desolated landscape as I had thought. 

Would I go again?  Maybe, if only to see how things have changed.  (Things do change literally from week to week there.  The building trades must be raking it in.)
