US Politics: Celebrating and despairing too early; No poll bump for Trump yet.

I was wondering why Trump flew out to check out the border wall in California, the ‘new, beautiful section’ that was actually just a rebuilt section. Turns out he then met rich donors for couple of hours, and then after that headed off to his golf course for a meeting. Speculation is the meeting was about permission for 23 new houses to be built around the golf course, houses that will block the scenic views for the golfers. Don Trump jr and Kushner were there too. The kind of business discussion Trump said he had divested to the kids when he became president.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen leaving Trump administration amid surge of migrants

The meeting between Trump and Nielsen was not disclosed on the president’s public schedule, and it came three days after the White House abruptly yanked the nomination of Ronald Vitiello, who had been picked as Trump’s director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The president later signaled that he wants the nation to go “in a tougher direction” on immigration.

In case no one was sure yet if the Prez is a racist xenophobic piece of shit, he's now saying that immigrants "aren't people, these are animals".

You do realize Trump was referring to MS-13 members who like to brutally murder people with machetes.  This is an old story from almost a year ago.

You do realize it's a classic associational (my discipline would call it priming) technique that is transparently racist?  The GOP using dog whistles for racists is an old story, but Trump's upped the ante.

The thing is, they are still people. Even dehumanizing hardened criminal murderers is a bad human rights attitude. And limiting that attitude to criminals of a certain ethnicity or nationality makes it doubly bad.

Fair enough.  Call it a friendly reminder that your president is a racist xenophobe.

Just be careful about being manipulated into believing things that are not true or highly misleading.  Take care!

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is warning that the words of Fox News hosts have more consequences than many people seem to realize. In a Saturday night tweet, the freshman lawmaker from New York linked comments by Fox News host Jeanine Pirro to death threats against her colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar.

While retweeting a news story about the 55-year-old Donald Trump supporter who was arrested for threatening to kill Omar, Ocasio-Cortez made a reference to Pirro. “Understand when Jeanine Pirro goes on Fox + rallies people to think hijabs are threatening, it leads to this,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “Folks who imply we’re ‘bad’ for politics, the party, the country, etc. have no idea the threats we deal w/ because of that kind of language. Talk policy, not personal.”

I just love how the headline for WaPo right now is "Kirstjen Nielsen quits as homeland security secretary after meeting with Trump."  It's like, "hey, how did your meeting with Trump go?"  "The usual - I quit."  *nods*

Ok...if Trump does go the 'harder line' on immigration, wouldn't that merely increase the number of lawsuits he'd have to contend with on the issue?  Ones that he'd lose even more decisively than is already the case?

So far the losses have been inconsequential, and hes betting on winning more. So yes, his goal is to do things against the law and force people to sue him.

He doesn't give a shit what happens in court, because he knows his fans don't give a shit what happens in court.  Which is why he can't ever get over 44%.

I think it's moronic to expect any change in this country to happen as long as Democrats need the House, the presidency, and 60 votes in the Senate to get anything done, but Republicans just need a president who's willing to give the law and human decency the middle finger.

I have a silly question to ask. Why are bikers conservative right-wingers?

Yes, I know not all bikers support Trump, but holy shit, I grew up with the Easy Rider idea of bikers being either free spirits, or bloody gang members, like Hell's Angels. Not Republicans, in other words.

Yet the world seems filled with conservative bikers. Up here north of the wall when I am reading comments and wonder where the right-wing nut bar comes from, 9 times out of 10 they are from oil country, Alberta (land of American wannabes), and have posted pictures of themselves on their Harleys.

And then there is this whole bikers for Trump crap. CNN went to the big biker meet, can't remember the name of the town now, rocksniffer used to go regularly, and they were flying Trump banners all over the place. Board member rocksniffer is a good example of bikers who are definitely not for Trump, and I know others, but they seem to be a minority.

He's fostering conditions that there will be Abu Ghraib-type prison conditions uncovered -- if those don't already exist considering the horrific conditions we're already seeing both on the border and in prisons.

Quote

Last year, a group of Sikh men from the Indian state of Punjab arrived in the United States, many of them fleeing religious and political persecution. They requested asylum and were sent to the El Paso Processing Center in Texas. For more than 40 days now, nine of those men have been on a hunger strike while the courts slowly consider their cases. Then this week, staffers at the center attempted to force-feed the men, but they resisted and were threatened with immediate deportation—even though their attorney says they are too frail to travel and the courts are not finished with their cases.

A federal judge first authorized the force-feeding in mid-January, two weeks after some of the asylum-seekers stopped taking their meals. One of them, a 22-year-old who has lost 50 pounds on the strike, told the Associated Press about being pulled from his cell multiple times each day for the force-feeding. “They tie us on the force-feeding bed, and then they put a lot of liquid into the tubes, and the pressure is immense so we end up vomiting it out,” he said in early February. “We can’t talk properly, and we can’t breathe properly. The pipe is not an easy process, but they try to push it down our noses and throats.”

What do you think you accomplished here? Trump and his administration are absolutely racist in their rhetoric and policy on immigration. Full stop and no need for any correction, context, or elaboration.

Oh don't worry, I'm sure they also are vigilant about correcting all of Trump and company's actual lies and falsehoods as well.

Probably going to be a bunch of this the next couple weeks with a other wave of fl00b
